Firmware V1.6.7 issues with display on HP3501
« on: April 20, 2021, 12:51:37 PM »
Just bought a new weather station and went with the HP3501 console. I was reading the forums and decided to update my firmware via SD card. Went well. But the display is now off for the weather and is missing icons. I have contacted Ecowitt support as well as their facebook page. Waiting to hear back.

Anyone else seen this or knows a fix? Its the top right on the console. All over the place. Plus missing other icons on the console. Tried pushing the firmware again.

https://www.ecowitt.com/shop/goodsDetail/83 - Got the firmware from here.

mmmh - first time I read about an issue with FW 1.6.7 of the HP350x.

Did you try to repeat the firmware update ?
Copy the user.bin file again into the SD card root directory and re-insert it to the console.
It usually gets deleted after the update.
The update should (might) start again.

If nothing changes (be it the update doesn't repeat or it does but nothing changes), your console it probbly defective and needs to be replaced.

A factory reset (see manual) could also be a fix. But save before (on "paper") your rain totals and your calibration values.

Hey, thanks for the reply. Did a factory reset. Tried again on firmware. Nothing on SD card at all. Same. Wondering if an older firmware file could resolve it and maybe a bug in this version. Not sure. Just seems like an image file is missing.

Hi!

Did you copy both files Firmware.bin & picture.bin onto the SD Card?

Yep. From the Zip from Ecowitts page. The issue just seem to be some icons, and the wind in the top right.

Sorry,

then you probably have to wait for Lucy. But the Ecowitt support always reacts very quickly.
Did you try to install a older firmware?
I could provide the HP3500-V1.6.2-Release.zip.

Regards, Oliver

I haven't at present. It came with V1.6.2 which had no display issues. I did contact their support team as well. I was hoping either they had a patch, or indeed maybe version V1.6.6 as don't need the C02 info at the mo

Lucy contacted me. Tried a different picture.bin file. That didn't work. Pushed firmware again with that picture.bin file. Still didn't work. Will post if resolve.

Lucy fixed it. Console is back to normal. Thank you.

You may also try this:
1. create a new folder and named it as "RF915M" under the root directory.
2. Download the picture.bin again and drag it to the new folder.
3. Update the console again.
4. If succeeded, please delete the new folder in your SD card.

Please have a try and let us know the result.

If it still doesn't work, please send us a photo to show what the files and folders in your SD card.

I just ran into same issue and had to revert back to firmware I still had saved on my computer 1.6.2. You don't have the new picture and firmware bins do you? All I can find is the firmware bin and no pic bin now. Thanks.

Hi!

You should try the new firmware v1.6.9.
Finally Ecowitt released a complete zip-file with v1.6.9 containing the picture.bin.
You may find it here under MANUAL & SOFTWARE.
Just extract the Firmware.bin and the picture.bin to the root-dir of the SD-card, insert the SD-card in the HP3500 and power off/on the station.

BTW: I could offer the complete firmware-zips for v1.6.2 and v1.6.7 for the HP3500/HP3501. Just send me a pm.

Regards, Oliver

I think that is the one I was trying to do all last night, of course they would put up the pic.bin file today. Thanks, it appears to be working right now.
