Lightning I caught on video
« on: March 27, 2007, 12:30:11 AM »
About a week ago in my home town in New Zealand we had a major power outage caused by a lighning strike to a power station. When it happened I went to my kitchen window to see how widespread it was and when i got to the window I saw a huge flash of lightning, I rushed to get my camera just incase it happened again and itdi a couple more times.

When I checked my memory card just a few days ago (i thought that I hadn't caught the strikes) I was plesently surpeised to so that I had.

I made a video of the event and slowed it down three seperate times as to get a better look at it.

Here's the video link:

Great example of an IC burst.

Tune to my webcam during a storm around here and you'll see a similar show (live!).

(By the way, very nice collection of nighttime dust particle photography right next to it.    )

Shoosh I'm passing them off as orb photos  , not really , every photo I take that has "orbs" in them are easily explainable, dust, rain etc.

They make perty photos though.

I got to look into this IC burst thing, just to understand better what I recorded.

Oh sorry... InnerCloud where the charge basically jumps from one cloud to another.
