Title: Guest users without an account - You Should Register

It amazes me how many guest users are constantly viewing this forum. You can see them browsing the latest posts and also older posts.

Do these people not realize that even if they have no intention of posting that when you register your read and unread messages are tracked? I can't imagine trying to constantly keep up with new posts and picking up where I left off without that feature. Is there any reminder/indication for these users to register mentioning these benefits?

Perhaps a lot of what you're seeing are bots?

I think so too,  around 30 seconds of posting a bot is usually on the thread.  Probably google.

Google spiders show up as "Google" not Guest.

Not all spider/bots are recognized as such by the SMF software, so may show as 'guest' instead.

Also, we have a pot-load of miscreant bots attempting registrations so they can sign in and spam us.. Blocked by our trusty dual captcha system.   Here's yesterday's registration attempts

When they get really obnoxious, I add them to the .htaccess deny list (usually an entire CIDR worth) to give them 403s instead.
