Who's going to be impacted by Irene.
« on: August 25, 2011, 10:15:35 AM »
I know there are a bunch of us living on or near the east coast
and New England that will be directly effected by Irene.

Maybe a show of hands so those of us who'd like to can keep track of you and your websites?

We are also probably going to be impacted here near Allentown, PA. Am going to keep things running here as long as possible. I have backup power which should keep the station going whatever may happen power wise. We are preparing and hoping for the best.

Good idea Tony. I can get better info from some of the personal weather stations than I can the NWS.

Which gives me an idea...

With the track change this morning, it looks like we are directly in the path here in NH. Just like Floyd in 1999.

We are ready. Our only concern is with large amounts of rain. If we get as much as predicted, things will be under water here. Emergency power will keep things running for as long as possible in the worst case. This includes the web cams. Stop on by and watch the river rise!  That is, until it all floats down river. ;)

Thats right. You are right on the river there. Has that river ever gone over the banks there?

Oh heck yeah. It floods at least once every spring right there. It is just expected. If the river gets high enough, we can become stuck, as it goes over the road above and below us.  With a hugh amount of rain though, it is a different story. Never, ever saw the river with 6+ inches of rain. Don't really want to either, as the house would be gone I assume.

Just counting the days.  ;)

We'll see what happens being on the western side of it. If It tracks through NYC and up the Hudson River Valley,
it wont be pretty here. T.B.D.

You do know that I am quite jealous of you.  :-(
Man I sure wish it could take a 100 mile western wobble.

Looking at it on Miami radar and talking to some people in south Florida who say the outer bands are pretty nice has me as weather nut very jealous. I want some of that action.
That being said I don't want the eye to come over the house, just some selected rain bands real close to it.

If you'd like to come and visit during Lake Effect season, you're more than welcome too.

I'll stay down there and maybe watch your house.
I will gas up the snow blower for you too.  ;)

We are not in the path of the storm but close enough to keep an eye on it. Will keep the webcam streaming as long as I have power, http://www.theweatherobserver.com

Looks like we here in Boston (actually Plymouth MA.) might get a good blast from Irene...

I'll be setting up another web cam on Sunday so everyone can watch.

She's off the coast right now.  We are getting outer bands; however the rain and breeze is a nice change to August weather in Central FL.

Here's some direct links within my site:

Enjoy (if you catch it before tomorrow night)...

A couple days ago I had a wild idea, much like a dude ranch, I could offer the "hurricane experience", charge a nice fee for someone to stay at my house, with the understanding that they'd have to help with the cleanup afterwards.

They could experience the wind, rain, power outages, eating out of cans, no A/C the next day in 85-90 heat...

Ha ha ha..........

If my anemometer mast holds up, you can always check my station... assuming I have power throughout Saturday... but I only update every 15 minutes, nothing live, but you'll see max wind...

I've got a new network cam pointing out a window, if the rain isn't blowing against the window, I'll post a URL, but it has a limited number of connections.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a website service that will re-stream my video for greater bandwidth to viewers?

I do, but since it's dark out, there's nothing to see...

If I can find a free re-streaming service, I could post a URL starting for tomorrow daylight...

My buddy on Long Island left for Boston today. A few weeks ago, he bought tickets for Sunday's game at Fenway.   Sure hope he didn't plan anything for Saturday nite...

Sitting almost in the Bullseye for landfall on LI. I'm still feeling a slightly East track from what is being shown right now. Worried about my sister who is Sayville less than 1000' from the Great South Bay and about 12' above sea level :( She will likely be headed to my house. WORST part about it is I will be at work Saturday night till Sunday at 9 am and quite possibly, A LOT longer than that.
