Here I am out of town, things were working before I left, today I get back to the hotel, VWS wasn't transmitting so I restarted it. Yes, I use startwatch but it didn't see it as locked up. It was still running but not transmitting updates. So I VNC into the computer to restart it, and now I can't get back in and of course VWS isn't working. Pisses me off, no other way to put it. It's been doing this more often lately, I have no idea why, nothing has changed on the computer. I'm sure Windows is sitting there with a stupid little window saying "Are you sure you want to stop so and so". Well of course I do, I told you to restart!!!!!!!!! Friggin Windows.

I use to have a hardware device that would allow me to call in and it would cut the power to the computer, then turn it back on. I wish I still had it. Now I have to wait until my wife gets back from Florida tomorrow to get it reset.

Just pisses me off.  Evil or Very Mad

If you can not VNC back in, the issue is more then simply a VWS problem.

Internet issues, router issues, window issues, other hardware issues, you name it. Which could have caused VWS to not function correctly. So, in fact, VWS may not be the problem at all.  Confused

Hopefully you will get it sorted out.

I got lucky the night I was setting by my old computer and heard it shutdown at 12:30am due to the video card.  Don't work that way very often.   Rolling Eyes

I hear ya Mark.

Funny that you should mention it. I had a video card fry the other night. It was quite old though and lasted far longer then I figured it would. Pulled out the box of spares, popped in a replacement and off she went.

Just gotta love old computer equipment. Beat it with a hammer and it still keeps on chugging along. Laughing

I also use LogMeIn to manage the remote computers.  Alas for lots of reasons I use laptops that do not suport wake on lan.  I'm working on a hardware restart.  I saw something useful in the current version of Nuts and Volt magazine.  If it does not receive a heartbeat packet from the PC within a preset time, it can reboot and.or power down and power up.  Now all I need to do is tear the laptops apart to gain access to the power switch contacts.  Eventually I'll make this stuff bullet proof.  Of course I remember that Murphy was an optimist

It's working now but the freezes have become more frequent... and only for VWS. The rest of VWS will continue to work but the uploads, and particularly the wflash updates.

I've made it 22 days since that last happened.  I completely turned off Windows updates (including notification and downloads) for a test.  Jury is still out whether that was irritating it.

Something seems to have changed in the MS updates over the last month.  The auto search alone now nearly disables both of my computers for the better part of 10 minutes on bootup.  Especially my laptop.  That's what gave me the idea to shut them down on the weather computer to see if it made a difference.
