Do you have to leave your computer on 24 hours a day to keep a PWS  active on wunderground? It would be nice to turn it off at night then let it update the next morning.

You can turn it off and let it update the next day like that*.  But after an hour or so of no reports you will not be shown on their public page until the next upload.

*Edit: Provided you have a data logger that stores the data overnight.

I use a WS-2080, running Cumulus.

I didn't know when you sign up for a new wunderground station if it would show the station unless it was on for 24 hours.  They note it takes about a day to get it on the list.

When I turned on the computer this morning after leaving it off overnight, then started Cumulus and it updated itself from the Ambient Weather WS2080, I checked the history of the station on Wunderground.  The first thing I noted was the graph's times are two hours ahead of both station time and the time shown on wunderground.
The rapid fire is on and working.

I also thought, but I must be wrong, that Cumulus would upload the missing data from the night to Wunderground but that didn't happen so I have about 7 hours of missing data.

Do I have a wrong setting someplace or is that just the way it works?

I know with my connection to WU that if I drop that connection, say for 3 hours whether it's my p.c. or the Internet, then I lose 3 hrs. of data on WU even after the connection is restored.

I think they want a constant flow of data, not just every now and then. They don't want to display incomplete data.

I just assumed when you signed on all back logs would be sent to wunderground.  Must not be the case.

On my graphs being off by two hours.
I am a big dummy.  In my rush to get my new station up and running I selected the time zone for my wunderground station and assumed it was right because  of my wunderground home page said everything was kosher with the time zones not thinking this was not the same setting as my station time zone.  I live in the USA  in south Georgia.  I set my station time zone for Atlantic South Georgia which briefly I thought was an odd way to list it but I was in a hurry.

I thought Cumulus could do that too.  Do you see all the data from overnight in Cumulus?

Mark, yes it is there in Cumulus.  Cumulus has worked flawless since its installation.

I wonder if any of the other software's perform this kind of update?

I know there is an option in VWS to "Upload archived data" to WU. Mine is unchecked right now but I might check it and see what happens.

Weather Display will update past data.....you have to set the time/date of the past data you want uploaded.

The WeatherUnderground module for WeatherLink can "backfill" missing data intervals.  This isn't an automatic feature.  You have to select the time interval of missing data to be filled in and then manually activate it.

VWS does in fact update all the missed data to WU when it is started.

The way I understand is that Cumulus does not currently upload past data, but Steve has learned that WU will accept past data and he is looking at changing Cumulus, but that might not be until v2.  I used the WL/WU feature to upload past data when I did not run 24/7 but have since changed to Cumulus upload as it was more reliable when I started my 24/7.

I just today ran across that post by Steve.  I am a patient man, I can wait.  Steve keeps a tremendous load on his plate at all times I would bet.  I need to donate.  I have been real happy with the software.
