Maybe I missed something, but are we going to be having nominations for Featured Web Site for 2010?

Since I kinda missed the Winter 2009, and Spring 2010 polls (and there was no hue and cry about my laxity), I kinda let it go quiet. Of the active members (about 300 check in weekly), a poll usually has less than 50 total votes .. not a good turnout IMHO and shockingly poor v.s. 3000 total members. Many of the 3000 members haven't been here in months(years). So.. I just quietly retired the Featured Website polls, but if there is strong support, I could resurrect it again Best regards, Ken

Here is an idea which maybe an solution but as to my ideas and opinion they are always on the low end of things. Way I see the polls going here it is more like the High school most populkar vote. Why not instead have couple of the moderators go thru the people that who are active on here and have an site and pick it as the site of the month. THat way everyone has an chance to have their site chosen. Eventually everyone that is actively involve here can have his/her site chosen for people to check out. All would be on the same playing level even if your not an high traffic site. I'm sure there are some who won't like this idea but this is my 2 beads worth.

Just now getting around to seeing the thread but I also think that is a wonderful idea! This way leads to more variety among the chosen sites and will likely bring out a few excellent sites that may have gone unnoticed before.
Excellent !!

I'm a relative newcomer to this forum and like the idea of a featured website of the month.

I'll vote yes. Might provide the incentive to get moving on putting together a weather web site!

Arggg... I was trying to avoid this so I wouldn't have to act like a Simon Cowell from Idol fame...
I do see a lot of weather websites, but feel underequipped to nominate one to be featured in and of itself. Since my other admin buddies are kinda scarce in their activity on the forum, I (along with moderators SLOweather and Racenet) are the visit-daily crew and handle the forum needs (very slight).
If you really want to reactivate this on WXForum.net, then I feel that doing it the 'old' way is probably best.. collect 4-6 sites based on member nominations, then run a poll and one with largest vote count is selected.
I think I'd like to do it 4-times a year (seasonally) rather than monthly, as monthly has a fairly high overhead associated with the writeup on the featured site.
Best regards, Ken

Now that's a mighty fine suggestion. I don't think mine will ever get nominated, as I haven't done anything major to it for quite a few years now !! Must get around to updating the site sometime.

Always keen on a bit of competetion.
My site of course suffers at the hands of our Govt funded commercial weather service who unlike there European and US brothers do not release much data (Radars etc) for us PWS guys to use without us paying Heaps.
But I still figure I have a good candidate relative to my Local down here in New Zealand.
