Does anybody have experience with the Ambient WS-2080 or WS-1080 equipment? Is it the same as other equipment with Ambient label or something else. Generally priced around $100 makes it an attractive entry station.

I asked a similar question in another thread.  Dan thought that they looked similar to Zephyr stations.  Probably produced with an Ambient label.

Behind the zephyr/watson/ambient and other name badges they are FineOffset stations. Seem to be good value.

Bought my Zephyr PWS-1000 seven months ago and it has been working perfectly ever since. Solid unit if unspectacular, bit of a slow refresh on wind data (48 seconds I believe). I think it's an extremely good value.

I had a La Crosse WS unit that I bought a few years back.  Don't remember the model number since it has been awhile.  It was also a Fine Offset unit.  It worked great for the 4 - 5 years that I had it in operation until I decommissioned it last fall when I moved.  Now I'm in the process of installing a WS-2080.  Given how well the La Crosse worked, I think this will be just as good.  I do recommend that you upgrade the radiation shield. The one provided is not very good and will require a lot of shade.  One of these days I will move up to a Davis or Weatherhawk system

Interesting to see the similarities between Fine Offset and LaCrosse stations. The console display layout and icons along with the software are really close to the same.

I  have the Zephyr PWS 1000 (FineOffset) and really like it.  I picked it up this winter based on recommendations here for an inexpensive starter station.  I've been using Cumulus for the software.

Yesterday I took the station down and took it apart because the rain gauge wasn't working.  I never expected the issue to literally be a "bug in the system"!  With said offending insect and its nest removed, it's working fine again and is set back up.  I love being able to look up temps, rainfall, etc., esp. if I'm away from home.  I can just check out Wunderground and see how much rain, etc. Smile

If I do it again, I might go with the one-wire system or if I have plenty of extra $$$ the Davis, so that I can add additional sensors for the greenhouse.

Hmmm, a Japanese 404 error.  That might be a first for me.
