I know that there quite a few computer geniuses on the forum so I thought I would bring this problem here first.
The bay door to my computers DVD bay keeps opening up when it should not be.  I put in a disc and after about 10-15 seconds it opens up.  It does not matter what disc is inserted. I know this is a no-no, but I tried to hold it closed and that worked but I don't want to be doing that.  I have tried to find something somewhere in the control panel or anyplace I could think of but cannot find anything relating to this.  Brick wall Brick wall Brick wall d'oh! d'oh! Sad Sad
Any Ideas out there??  This is a year old computer (DELL) that runs very well except for this problem.   Thanks for any help!! Applause Applause

It is an Inspiron 530 S. I will most likely just pop a  new one in myself. I was hoping it wasn't the drive itself. But it seemed that it was opening because the drive was not reading anything because sometimes if I kept trying it might work correctly after 8 tries at it.  The computer is older than I originaly thought.  It is 1 year and 7 months.  Don't feel much like calling India.  Had that experience already and I am not filled with enthusiasm when I contemplate doing it again!! d'oh! Hopefully it's a standard package drive and you can replace it easily, probably get one faster and cheaper too.

The drive is kinda standard. You can get one at Worst Buy or whatever is best for you. Here is the support doc for your computer.

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/insp530s/en/OM/HTML/parts.htm#wp1429712
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/insp530s/EN/OM/HTML/appendix.htm

The second doc is the specs on your computer and if you scroll down to the drive list you will see that you need a SATA DVD drive not an IDE or PATA drive. I happened to be placing an order with Dell for one of my depts. so it was easy to get the scoop on your 530s.

TigerDirect is showing several SATA DVD burners for around $25. Hopes this helps.

I use to play tricks on my users and make the tray open and close automatically from my desk! That was fun but I guess your problem isn't! Drives are a dime a dozen nowadays so I would just replace it.

I would think that the door opening and closing like that would be funny. Laughing  That is  the kind of fun that makes the day go by a bit better.  I actually thought it was funny when my bay was opening and closing every ten seconds.  Thought the dang thing was haunted.  Then I thought to myself, "Oh no, I have to call India again"!! But I had a brainstorm and decided to eliminate DELL from the process all together.
I always prefer to deal with Americans.  One experience of talking to India DELL was enough for me.  Had me on the phone almost 2 hours.  Tried to sell me everything on the menu.  I hope I never have to make that call again.

Laughing Laughing Applause Applause   I would love to be able to do that to some victims on April fools day!! Laughing   I almost wish there was someone around here that might have pulled that on me.  I wouldn't have to get a new drive.  Thank God they are not real expensive.
