I have a beta of VirtualVP, v. 1.2.4 that temporarily addresses the problem of the new Loop command in VP firmware 1.90. If a program asks the console, through VirtualVP what the firmware version is, VirtualVP simply passes along what the console says. But if it's firmware v. 1.90, then the weather program assumes it can use the new loop command, which VirtualVP does not support. This v. 1.2.4 of VirtualVP temporarily addresses this by filtering the response to the version command so it reports an earlier version so the weather program will not assume the loop2 command can be used. This problem only occurs if you have the 1.90 firmware, and use the latest VirtualWeatherStation or 5.9.x of WeatherLink, and possibly the latest PC-Wetterstation. The beta is a zip of the exe, which can be extracted and placed in the folder where VirtualVP is installed. The download is here: http://www.softwx.com/weather/virtualvp/virtualvp1.2.4.zip

I would like to add native support in VirtualVP for the new loop2 command, but have not gotten my hands on the specs for the command. If anyone has that, I would be thankful if you could email it to me (steve at softwx.com).

Also, a VirtualVP user alerted me to a virtual serial port driver I had not encountered before. It is a fully signed driver, so it can be used on 64-bit Windows without having to jump through any other hoops, and it's free. The link is on the download page at softwx.com, but to save you having to go there here is this link: http://k5fr.com/ddutilwiki/index.php?title=VSP_Manager
I have not tested it myself, but a couple VirtualVP users have been using it and report that it works well.

Josh,

Kind of sounds like a windows password you have put in at some point.

Why not just use the TCP/IP connection and forget the virtual serial ports.

Here are the settings for VVP, VWS, and WL.  Screenshots attached.  You will need to restart VVP.  Hope this helps.

You do not need VWS.  Just set up Virtual Vantage Pro and Weatherlink.

I am not familiar with using the USB connection with Vantage Pro.  I'm not sure how VVP would connect.  Maybe someone else can help.  I did find out that VSP Manager is not available any longer.  Your only other option is to purchase a virtual port driver.  The problem is that microsoft has decided to charge a lot of money to license 64 bit drivers.  Here is a link where you can buy one if you want.  http://www.eterlogic.com/Products.VSPE.html

Hope that helps.

For a while, there was a free virtual serial port driver that was signed. But the author of that driver had to pull it from availability because of a license issue with a third party component utilized in the driver. With that gone, there were no free signed drivers. To address this issue, I have obtained the certificate necessary to do the signing process, and am donating this service to the com0com open source virtual serial port project. The author of that software has added me as a developer on that project, and I'm working with him to provide signed 64-bit versions.

He will put together the next release containing the signed drivers, but I have a version that can be used to beta test. So if a couple people that are already using com0com on 64 bits using windows test mode can email me at support at softwx.com, I will send you the signed version to try out. I'd like you to take windows out of test mode, test that the driver no longer works in normal windows, then update the driver with files I will send you, then test that the updated driver works. This test will only work if you already have com0com installed, as I don't have a whole installer package built. I only have the new signed driver, catalog, and inf file.

Ok, I now have the full install for the signed 64 bit version of com0com. So if there are a couple people that didn't want to the the windows test mode thing, aren't using another virtual serial port driver, and want to beta test the signed 64-bit version of com0com, send an email to support at softwx.com
