For about the last 3 weeks or so I have been receiving a lot of quality check e-mails regarding my temperature readings.    From what I can tell the temperature readings are coming in colder than what they should be (according to the quality check reports).  My station is located close to Lake Huron and I suspect that my temps here are quite a bit cooler than what they are in town away from the lake.    Especially last week when we still had a lot of ice cover on the lake.

Is there an easy way for me to check the gauge to make sure it reading the temps correctly?    Mike

It may not be you.  It may be a nearby sensor that's went bad starting three weeks ago.

You could always compare your station to one a few miles away. That's what I do to make sure it's working correctly.

Hey Mike,
I have an inexpensive Acurite wireless digital thermometer in my front yard. I have one in my back yard also. My VP2 is located 200' away on the lake shore. If it is cloudy, no matter what the temperature, and the wind is blowing, the 3 outdoor temps are within a degree of each other. So, what I am saying is that cheap digital thermometers are fairly accurate. You could get one and with the appropriate total climate see how it corresponds to your VP2. I'll bet on the Davis over CWOP any day.

what are your madis  QC if they are ok I wouldn't worry about the  green check/red X. I get flasgged all time for humidity. But living 500 feet off salt water at base of 3000 foot mountain it going to be like that.

I just got a fresh quality check report.    See below.    Mike

DATE     UTC   *   ALT    * POT TEMP *  DEW PNT *    DD    *    FF
                  *   (MB)   *  (DEG F) *  (DEG F) *   (DEG)  *   (KNT)
24-MAR-2010 Errs  *   0/140  *   3/140  *   0/140  *   0/140  *   0/140

Note that times are in UTC. The values displayed are  'Observed (error)'
The error value is 'analysis - observed'. I.e. if your observed value is higher
than the computed value, then the error will be negative. You have to pick out
the reading that is in error. The row with the time of 'Smry' is a daily summary
and the data is  'mean(standard deviation)' for each observation during that
day.

well your 3 day, 7 day and 14 day are good at 4 week it goes south . I really wouldn't lose any sleep over it.  The madis (green thumbs) are up on all of them so thats good. What the boy from Waldon Pond doesn't take into reality with his program are micro climes that are created . Even he admitted to this when I e mailed him about his program flagging my humidity all the time.
