After such dominance for so many years, has it been 18 years since the last win, America3?

1) They know the game, but nobody had ever held a stick up close.

2) To cover up the smoke and fire damage caused by the British when they set it on fire during the War of 1812.  There is still a lot of whitewash used in Washington these days.

Same guy that made the big push for a "National ID Card" after 9-11. Probably wanted to use his CIA database software (Oracle).

Well, as the OP of this thread, I'm already upgrading my Logitech 9000 to an Axis 211. The Logitech is a good camera and quite good at close objects, but its focal length is too short (distant objects aren't captured with enough clarity and appear too far away) and image quality isn't quite what I want to provide my visitors. The Logitech has been running happily in its outdoor heated enclosure for now, but it will become a secondary camera for another purpose, what...I don't know yet.

I got this off Ebay. Weathergirl told me about it. Have my 9000 in there.
Has a cooling fan and heater also. Great deal.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220238109831&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123

I just received one of these enclosures to use with a Logitech 9000 - it has changed slightly from what is shown on eBay, the bracket now mounts to two nuts in a track running the length of the bottom, offering more flexibility when installing.

Two questions:

Which two terminals did you use to power the fan/heater? The directions are not very clear on this. I'll be using the 12VDC option.

If anyone has their camera looking up slightly, did you angle the housing up or aim the camera up inside the enclosure (lens not parallel to the glass)?

Thanks
Mike

I went into a computer shop 3 blocks from my house and found the same enclosure without heater or fan going for $12 CDN, guy had a box of them sitting on the floor, was expecting him to say $60!!  d'oh!  Only problem, in my case, is the housing is aluminum, GPS won't work through it!  So I'm making a housing that'll match the Boltek housing, have both the webcam and GPS in it with a hub at the end of a Cat5 USB extender cable. Have had it running in the house here for the past 6 months with no problems other than the odd power glitch causing the GPS and camera to disappear off the hub.  Rolling Eyes d'oh! A power cycle of the hub power gets it running again.

I had a couple of them outside in an unheated enclosure. they worked fine through the utah winter. got into the single digits a few times, and was well below freezing almost every night for a couple months at least. had no problems...

Angle the housing and leave the camera flush against the glass.

I bought two of these from this seller, one with a heater/blower and one without.  I haven't used the HB one yet.

The directions aren't very clear?  I'd say they are non-existent.

I've been keeping it a secret until now but after having Image Salsa for 5 years I finally hooked a Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 to it about 3 weeks ago and started uploading the Image to Weather Underground.  Right now it is pointed out a window.  I bought a $10 halogen outdoor flood lamp fixture from Lowe's Wednesday thinking I'll gut the lamp and socket and mount it in there.

It is set to run sunrise to sunset.

Do you use the URL or FTP method?

The reason I ask - On the Wunderground webcam page, as of about 1:00am EDT, of the 37 cameras in Ohio, yours and mine are the only two showing very old images (5 hours ago for you, 6 hours ago for me).
I'm using the URL method, the current image is available (24 hours a day), the data is current, an extra line is shown at night to explain the black scene, but it is a "live" (5 minute) image.

I'm using URL method.  They pull it from the same link as I pulled the picture above.  Come tomorrow at Sunrise it will start updating.  I use VWS to ftp the image to my website every 1 minute.  It brings up an interesting question though as to how they could know my image is not updating from sunset to sunrise when VWS continues to upload the .jpg every one minute.  Before I set the schedule I'm sure it showed black one night there when I checked.  (There are no lights visible in the image after dark in that direction.)

CNYWeather - A picture would be great, I'll be on the roof this weekend. Hopefully we have enough wind to keep things cool in the enclosure, about foot or so above a dark brown roof.

Mark - My image started showing again today around 11:00am EST (noon EDT), we'll see what happens tomorrow.

Which method do you use?  I could easily enough set Image Salsa to send it to WU or my webiste directly.  But since I'm in the early stages yet decided to use VWS to load it for now.  Also if memory serves E-Rice only allows 3 simultaneous ftp connections.  I already have VWS, WeatherLink, and GRL3 loading to them.  I've been meaning to do some rearranging to get WeatherLink back out of doing part of the uploads.

On a side note one thing I found was if I loaded the latest Logitech software which takes away some control from Image Salsa the picture did not look nearly as sharp.  I found what I think are legacy drivers ( LgDrvInst setup.exe ) on the install disk and used them instead.  That returned the color and sharpness controls to IS.

I let ImageSalsa save directly to the server and then Wunderground fetches it  (URL method). They are still showing on Wunderground now, well into the night. http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=KOHHAMIL7
I read a FAQ which listed system overload as reason for images not showing up - since I'm one the newest on the system, maybe I was one of the first to be skipped when the system was overloaded.
I just wish the Wunderground movie could be slowed down, instead of 24 hours passing in a blink!

I heard that.   Rolling Eyes  At some point I want to make my own movies and to some extent store daily images so I can at least review them for any accidental lightning photos.   Cool

just bought the new logitech HD pro webcam c910. added to my outside cams, which are microsoft HD lifecams. so far, so good. pics are similar, logitech a tad brighter it seems, but could be the sun angle difference. you can see them all here:

http://weatherbear.com/

the logitech is the one looking NNE, the other 3 widescreen cams are the Lifecam. the NW cam is s sharx network cam...not HD.
