I saw an update for the cabled Envoy but not for the Wireless Envoy.  I sent an email to Davis asking why..  the tool box shows one, but if it hasn't been released, I am shying away from it.

As for the other difference of opinon, that is exactly why I choses not to fight to remain on Weathermatrix or whever it is now.  Too much setting people up for failure and I agree, perhaps Davis does need to have something for Mac users.

I do know that WeatherDisplay has a mac version, that you will find to be better in all ways that Weatherlink.  The down side of not having weather link is that all settings have to be done manually from the console including time adjustments and that is a bore.  And if you have an envoy you are out of luck.

So yes, How about you mac folks write davis and tell them they would sell a heck more of their instruments and software.  But folks, please don't hurt some's feelings publically.. send them a private email and fight it out there.

there are not many weather boards out there and we need to keep our members.

  • Make sure you have shut down all of your weather programs that may be attempting to connect to the console BEFORE you run the executable.
  • I created a pdf file of the help file and have attached it to this post.

The help file (instructions) doesn't say to shut down all weather programs, nor does it say to download all data, and put the console in setup mode to make sure data is preserved, etc.

My recollection is that previous sets of instructions said to do that, and it's clearly good advice.

I wonder why those instructions weren't included?

Perhaps they ASSUMED we would all be experts and know what to do...  Wink

when I  bought my vp2  I had Ambient convert my consoles over to be able to load direct.
Still  I shut down all my software to do that.. it makes sense as we are pushing code  through the system, who knows where it ends up.

I loaded it because I was getting an error on the barometric pressure from CWOP and I see one of the fixes was to correct a high barometer reading...   I am letting it run to see how we come out...

Thanks.   Very Happy

Seriously - if the grammar in the "instructions" is indicative of the quality, then I'm concerned.

A brief sample:  "It is not advice to cancel the update while it is in progress"

Wonder if that is an indicator that Davis is farming out software development overseas?

I see similar translation type errors in consumer electronics service manuals and bulletins from Korea and Japan.

SO  they are using some literal translation.  The software is good, at least for now.  Just because they farm it out doesn't mean they are bad.  Maybe even some Chinese college kids are putting it together for us.   I mean they were able to hack into just about any thing we thought was secure over here, then their computing skills must be better.

It is the trouble we have with America.. we just don't use our own resourses, we hire other countries to do our work, and our workers starve.  Yesterday 400 people lost their teaching jobs in my district.  I was not one of them, but still   the country has no money, the recession is great, congress doesn't give a rats butt because they canceled the unemployment benefits package and they are not fixing the problem.  We are still buying out of the country items and we need to be buying American items.   Ford buys Volvo from Sweden and sells it to China.  Toyota  builds a cheaper car while Oldsmobile and Pontiac goes under and now the pedal jams and accelerates, but the price is right.

I don't think we can blame Davis for outsourcing, they are doing what big business does... OH..their console circuit boards have been foreign made for years...
If you want good software, then either use WeatherDisplay (oh.. it is New Zealand made)  or VWS, which I think is US ... and lets move on.

I don't blame them for outsourcing.

However, they (Davis US) are responsible for quality control - that is, checking all of the output product, including the completeness and quality of the documentation, instructions, etc.
