hopefully they forgot the direct PC Install version and will fix this soon...

Ditto for the wireless VP2 console, but not the wired one?  WTF?  I thought they were out of the updater requirement world.

In the past, an updater http://davisnet.com/weather/products/weather_product.asp?pnum=06311VP2 was needed to update the firmware of the console. It was no longer needed since a few years ago with the Direct PC Install which allows update through a weatherlink logger.

They should do the same with the Data Logger, $160+ is a ripoff.
And I do a have the firmware updater for VP2 as well even more of a ripoff.
They should return the money to all of us that have one! Shelfware but only this is hardware.

I don;t recall, being forced to buy an updater.  Wasn't there a rental pgm.?

Also, I expect they will release the direct install versions shortly.  Not even sure why they'd botehr with an updater version unless it was to placate those who bought them.  Wink

The version for the cabled console doesn't say it's for the updater - and doesn't say it's not.

My guess is that it was going home time midway in posting these updates or some such fairly trivial explanation. Posting of the updates certainly could have been managed more thoughtfully, but I suspect that if you leave it a day or two (and conceivably even later today) then all of the versions, including direct-to-PC, will be there. Certainly I've heard absolutely no hint that the updater will be mandatory for this latest firmware release.

Unzip it, you'll see the updater.exe, the flash.BIN and the VP2 Updater Manual

2/18/2010: Vantage Pro2 Wireless Console Firmware, 1.90 is most definitely NOT direct PC install.

The bootloader version is the same, so the updater should not be required.

Most likely they don't have the installer ready yet and a Direct PC version should be available before too much longer.

Anybody try this yet? It's supposed to support the new loop packet format, although I guess only the latest WL knows about it at this point.

   1. CWOP uploads will now contain 2 min average wind speed, 10 min wind gust and direction of gust, last 15 minutes of rain, last 1 hour of rain and Altimeter. Must also have WeatherLink software v5.9.0 or later to use this feature.
   2. Fixed clearing of yearly ET history data.
   3. Fixed a bug that caused the barometer value to have a large error after updating to firmware version 1.82
   4. Fixed a bug that when changing units in software caused the console to not reflect the change immediately.
   5. Fixed graph so that zooming to a different span always starts at the first point.
   6. Fixed display of historical yearly rain totals over 813 mm for .2 mm rain collectors (highs, lows and graphs).
   7. You can now only get to the Receive Diagnostics Screen from the Current Screen.
How serious of an issue is #3?  I've never noticed any large errors.

Interesting where it says "Click here for information on updating your firmware and software if you are in a region that uses Daylight Savings Time." the link goes somewhere that doesn't exist yet.

I'm hoping the update will have accounted for the change in NZ daylight savings times, as our DST period was extended in recent years.

I'm wondering if No 4 would now allow me to poke a new value to High Rain Rate for 2009. Currently, it doesn't accept a new value.

I had to rent an updater because I bought a console that was way out of date. I also found that the two consoles here at work needed to be updated so that the direct pc update would work. I hope they get the direct pc update to work because I dont feel like renting an updater again.

I'm screwed with updating my VP2 console because I use a Macintosh.  Brick wall  I guess I can rent an updater to flash this thing.

For the life of me, I don't understand why Davis does not create some kind of browser based firmware update system like router manufacturers have been using for decades.  Rolling Eyes

Oh well... Looks like most of the new features require the use of WL which I also can't use because the Mac version of WL doesn't support data uploading to ANY external websites such as CWOP and Wunderground.

Thanks Davis!  Neutral

Can't you run Windows in a VM and update from there?  Or just borrow a Wintel box.  I think the WLIP which has a MAC address/IP shoudl be updateabel as you suggest.  Too bad the regular console does not.

Thanks for the suggestions Bushman!

I can run the software fine using Bootcamp or Parallels, but I don't have a serial port on the computer so no way to interface into the updater to get the file into the updater hardware box.  Sad  I could probably get a USB/Serial adapter, but I recall reading somewhere that even with all of that, the update fails when using a Mac to do this process.

Do you have the link to the updater rental details on the Davis site?  I can't find that page for some reason when I was just up there.  I assume that if you rent the updater, it will come with the 1.90 firmware already on it, so all I would need to do is plug it into the VP2 console and run the update.

Interesting that the WLIP does provide the provision for flashing the firmware using a browser.  Why on earth doesn't Davis make this available for the far more popular VP2 console?  It really irritates me when a company sells a product that works on the Mac OS and even sells a Mac version of their weather software, but makes no effort to support VP2 owners with Macs to perform something as important as firmware updates.  Sad

Might look into borrowing a PC from a neighbor.  Does it have to have a serial port, or is the direct PC update done through USB to the logger port on the console?

Thanks in advance for that rental link if you have it handy.

Cheers.  Smile

[]Rick.

Rick, here's what I found:

Vantage Pro2 Wireless
If your Vantage Pro2 has firmware dated November 28, 2005 or later, your console is prepared for the new daylight savings schedule. As long as your console is set to "Daylight Savings - Auto," the console will display the correct time following the new standard

If your Vantage Pro2 has firmware dated earlier than November 28, 2005 you will need to do two things:

Call 1-800-678-3669 and rent an Updater (part #R6311VP2) for $20 plus shipping.

Download the latest Vantage Pro2 Wireless Console Firmware. Follow the Updater instructions for details on uploading the firmware into your console.

Frankly, I'd borrw the neighbour's PC.  It updates via the USB cable to the data logger.

As for why no browser interface?  Well, for starters there is no RJ45 port.  And no MAC address.
