Here is a photo of an R M Young wind monitor connected to a Davis weather station gathering ice in Cornelia, Ga.  Notice the icicles extending out from the impeller blades.  The RMY is still working while iced.

Wouldn't it, being a lightning rod, have a higher tendency to attract lightning to the equipment or was that your point?
