Was blessed at Christmas with a Davis Vantage Vue from my mother.

Enjoy the photos.

Really surprised by the detailed packing...

Especially on the back..don't think I'll let the wife toss the box!! Smile

It was very carefully packaged...

Bought a 6 foot galvanized pipe from Lowes for around 24 bucks. Easily mounted!

My lovely daughter agreed to pose with the Internal Sensor Suite (ISS)!

A look at the new and the old (a LaCrosse 2317 that has given me 3 1/2 years of strong service)

Finally, it's the Cookeville Weather Guy, himself posing next to the ISS

Lookin' Good!!
Everything looks great!
How is your data comparing to the Lacrosse?

Mine has gotten better over the WMR 968 but I really was surprised to see just how accurate the
OS station really is..now that I have a benchmark for comparison.

I am still processing data from both and feeding to my web site so it didn't get retired just placed in an
easier role Wink

Everything is reasonably close except for the anemometer. The LaCrosse is inconsistent at best and misses wind gusts due to the longer time between readings. The 2.5 second updates from the Davis are awesome. As I'm typing this, it is picking up 1 and 2 mph winds while the LaCrosse has seen one of those yet.

The barometers are about .08 apart consistently, but I'm not sure why. Humidity is about 8% apart, too.

Very pleased with the Davis system and learning about the graphing. Still need to read up on how to input the rainfall from the start of the year, so it'll compare with my CoCoRaHS readings.

It is a 1 and 1/4" galvanized pole...six feet in length from Lowes. Thought about PVC, but it was too flimsy at that length.

Do those trees in the background have any effect on the wind readings from the LaCrosse station? The Vue appears to be in a more open aspect.

Very nice photos. They look good enough to go in a catalog.  Wink That is a very nice model. If some one had a condo or an apartment balcony, it would be great for that. What made you choose that one?

My Vue has been very accurate, I made a baro adjustment after I got it but it tracks dead-on with the airport about 5 miles away. The actual sensors used in the Vue have exactly the same specs as the VP2. The main difference in readings have to do with siting and fan aspiration.

Let us know how it goes!

Hi Alan:

The trees you are referring to (the evergreens) are to the east of both stations. Rarely do we see east winds in my area. We typically have a south to southwest prevailing wind and it's pretty much wide-open in that direction.

I have one tree close to my home situated just north of the Davis and I may move the ISS of the Vue over to where the LaCrosse is sited....or I may just take out the tree (some weekend when my wife is away) Smile

Thanks Doug! My 15 year-old saved up for a Nikon D-60 camera this summer and we took those photos with it. Her website, Kingdom Kaptivated, is filled with some of her work. She is the photographer of the family!

The Vue was a Christmas gift from my mother. Had I been flush with cash, I would have purchased the VP2, but the Vue is a HUGE (and I mean HUGE) step up from my current LaCrosse set-up.

It is going great Steve...just today, my CoCoRaHS 4" manual gauge measured 1.23" of rain, while my Davis Vantage Vue had 1.24"...LOVE IT!!!...the LaCrosse averaged about 20% short on it's best day versus the 4" manual gauge.

My Davis VP2 has been just as close in accuracy as my CoCoRaHS 4" manual gauge which greatly pleases me.

Regarding Message from CookevilleWeatherGuy...

Ah, I'm an avid photographer my self. I've taken some great plant photos since I love plants and other scenery but I've just never got to the weather aspect of it.  Wink

Hey Cookeville Weather Guy (or anyone else with a suggestion,

I just purchased a Davis Vantage Vue (new to the weather game) and at this point plan on installing the ISS to my house the same as you.  My question, how did you attach the pipe to the house?

Thanks in advance,

I bought a three round clamps with (called a c-clamp, I think) a hole that attaches to my home with a long screw...once the snow goes away, I'll take a snapshot and put it up here....I also braced the bottom, too...

I understand that....some things just aren't our passion to shoot. My daughter would rather shoot people than anything else....tried to get her into weather shots, but she just doesn't like it.....

Hey Tuckersnator,

thanks for the response.....I did see your installation while cruising the forum looking for ideas.

The problem I think I will have is that my house has about a 2 foot overhang.  I did see someone using something called a "J" bar or some such thing which may work.  I plan to hit The Home Depot and see what kind of hardware they have and try to come up with an idea.

Thanks again,

BuckeyeBoy
