Well they thought it would rain, then they thought it would sleet/freezing rain.  At 3:00 it started snowing and it's coming down pretty good.  I hate it.  But, if there's a bright spot, at least it's not ice.  Ice storms are very destructive.  At any rate, it ought to get interesting on the scanner soon as people down here have no idea how to drive on snow.  Also, the webcam should have a little more interesting pictures.

I'm sure you miss this, Dan!  (yeahright)

There's one good thing about snow:  My yard will look as good as everybody else's yard.   Rolling Eyes

I'll take a foot of snow any day over an inch of ice.

As I said earlier, around 3:00 pm yesterday it started snowing.  It was 30F.  Around 7:00 it started sleeting and freezing rain.  At 10:00 pm it was 32F.  At midnight, it was 33F.  When I got out this morning to read the CoCo gauge, it was a melting slush out there.  I didn't do a snow core, as I figured it wouldn't tell an accurate story.  I did put in the comments that the melted reading was snow/sleet/freezing rain.  I reported 1.42 inches.  I also reported 1.7 inches snow on the ground and that it was 3 inches maximum depth yesterday evening.

There has been a light rain/freezing rain/sleet all day.  The temperature has been 32.5 to 33.4 F.  At 4:00 pm, it started snowing and the temperature started dropping.  It is supposed to drop to around 14F tonight.  I got the steps and porch cleaned off so the snow that was there wouldn't freeze, but what comes down tonight will be frozen in the morning.  Maybe a little salt will fix it.  I really don't look for much tonight, although I do have a snow board out.

Oh well.  It is supposed to be sunny tomorrow and nearly 50F on Monday.  So maybe it will clear up and be nice for a while.

The cops/phone/utility/wrecker people sure have been busy the past 24 hours and it sounds like they're still going at it.  They don't pay those folks enough.

That's my dog Socks guarding the weather instruments.  He doesn't seem to mind the weather.

And there was a great set of fox prints in the snow.  They have a unique way of walking and it's easy to tell what it is.  I saw the fox recently.  It is really orange and has white on it's tail.  Hopefully, I'll get a picture of it one of these days.

We used to see those "red" foxes quite a bit in Va. The even more rare ones are the "grey" foxes. They're almost white and blend in with the snow. I've only seen two in the wild. One came snooping around our front porch at 2 in the morning while it was snowing. Neat animals.

I live between two wooded areas, and if it's not the foxes, then it's the deer making an occasional appearance.

Well, it's a beautiful sunny day here after a low of 21 F, the temperature has skyrocketed to 33 F and should reach the 40s after while.  It's amazing how the anemometer and rain gauge on the OS 968 starts working when the sun shines and the temp reaches 32 F!   Rolling Eyes

Amazingly, the WS-2315 never blinked, and the wind readings never stopped.  Not too shabby for a $100 toy (although I did get the cup-style anemometer for it).

This is the first time my anemometer has frozen and quit working.  I guess it was the right combination of freezing rain and temperatures.  Luckily, the weather isn't that bad too much here.  If it's a once-a-year thing, I can live with that.

Yeah, I just got back in from shoveling/plowing the driveway and had to free up my OS-WMR968 anemometer too.

We had a low of -5.4 and we have a balmy 28.8 right now.  The sun is melting the snow on our black colored roof and the steam coming off of it looks like it's on fire.

If you can catch a satellite shot during mid-day with the sun high and bright with a clear sky (no clouds), you should be able to see the swath of snow coverage from this last storm.
