My location on CWOP is significantly different on the map from my physical location.  I have checked my location with GPS and on Google maps and the reported cords are accurate.

Can anyone help on getting this corrected?

Thanks,

What's your CWOP number and what map are you referring to?  The map on the summary page?

its determined by the lat/long that is sent with your data from the software, i.e the lat/long you have set in the software
check that is correct (especially the +/- for latitude)

My number is CW7044.  The longitude and latitude are correct as entered.  Double checked with Garmin Etrex Legend Cx with an 18' accuracy reading and compared that reading with hovering mouse over my house in Google Earth.  The numbers agreed. I looked at the position map on the find u page and it shows me about 1 mile east of my physical location.  Address is:  505 Hope St., Metter, Ga 30439

Not sure if it was okay with WD.  Can't recall ever checking it.

I saw this message on CWOP's CW7044 page:

The site coordinates appear to be of low precision, and the station may be anywhere within the marked area.

How many decimal places are you entering into your software?

Here's what is listed on the summary page:

Registered Location
Latitude: 32° 24' 36" N (deg min sec), 32.4100° (decimal), 3224.60N (LORAN)
Longitude: 82° 4' 0" W (deg min sec), -82.0667° (decimal), 08204.00W (LORAN)

APRS Location
APRS Location recorded at 2010-Jan-11 00:15 UTC
Latitude: 32° 24' 36" N (deg min sec), 32.4100° (decimal), 3224.60N (LORAN)
Longitude: 82° 3' 0" W (deg min sec), -82.0500° (decimal), 08203.00W (LORAN)

The location reported in the weather reports (via APRS) is significantly different to the registered location above. In particular, the difference is about 1.0 miles. If you have changed your location (or software) since the time above, then this can be a false alarm. Check the location currently being reported at findu.com.

Please check which location is correct. If the registered location is incorrect, then you can correct it by dragging the marker above and using the 'send the updated information link'. If the APRS location is incorrect, then you must enter the correct coordinates into your software which generates the weather report (APRS) messages. Note that the various different types of software take the location in different formats, so be sure to use the correct format when entering the latitude and longitude.

and here's what being sent from the weather station software:

CW7044>APRS,TCPXX*,qAX,CWOP-2:@101650z3224.59N/08203.99W_006/002g003t037r000P000p000h19b10258v8

The bold coordinates should be the same but they're not.  Perhaps an email to Russ could help to determine which is correct.

The VWsaprs add in requires entries in Degrees, minutes, seconds.  I had the location entered as:  82d 3m 59.995s which is the correct location.  I found that CWOP was truncating to 82d 3m and no s.  I have now entered as 82d 4m 0s the location is now improved.  Not spot on but within about 100'.  The latitude cords are also rounded incorrectly but not as much as longitude. The VWsaprs and CWOP are not communicating to the input accuracy.

Thanks for the replies

mhkitchens:
If i remember correctly for VWSAPRS on the seconds entry you can enter (14.30 sec) 82 degrees 4 minutes in decimal is really 82.066667.since it is rounded to 82.0667 the inaccuracy results.entering 82.0667 into conversion formulas yields 82 degrees 4 minutes and 0.1194 seconds.try entering  82  4  0.12 into VWS to see if that works.

If you want to get the location spot on Google Earth shows coordinates. Just zoom down to where you sensors are located.
I did that with mine. Later I took a handheld GPS unit to verify the location. It was spot, so Google Earth is very accurate.
