I went back this morning and found some notes on installing previous versions and you need to go to Programs and delete the VWS Installer folder, then I delete from the Recycle Bin and reboot and then install the older version. It will keep your data and settings so you don't loose anything.

I just did exactly this... and still get the same error message that it cannot install it because this is an old version.

Oops, as I reread and think back, I also uninstalled VWS through the control panel, then did everything else. I think the uninstall probably takes something out of the Registry. VWS is very invasive in some respects, it will go out on a network and find other VWS data at times on other computers, I've had some odd experiences, but the uninstall, delete the installer folder in programs, then empty the recycle bin and reboot and I've done it that way a couple of times.

Hi, As Steve indicated here what you have to do. I did this yesterday and I am back up running. For precaution back up your data just in case. 1.Go to http://www.ambientweather.com/do30tr.html and download the version of VWS that you need. I read where ED rolled back to p101 until the software compiler issue he had is resolved by the compiler manufacture. I believe I have the compiler story correct. Save it to the folder where you can access it for the reinstall. 2. Go to control panel and go to where you un-install programs (depends on windows version). Uninstall VWS. 3. Next go to the VWS Installer directory and delete the directory. When you reinstall VWS it recreates the VWS installer directory. 4. Now empty the recycle bin. 5. Shutdown Windows and your computer. 6. Restart your computer. &. Go to the file you download from the VWS website and launch it. Follow the install instructions. As long as you tell the program to install in the same directory as you had the previous version of VWS all of your settings should be intact. 9. Now launch VWS it should work. It did for me. Steve, Thanks again for all your help. If I missed anything on my steps and advice please feel free to add. All I can say it worked for me.

Wayne, I've uninstalled 104 but trying to install a prior version still brings up the banner for 104 and the same lockup. I was running P100 previously. If you have options, I'm interested. Stev Lenon slenon@comcast.netSounds like there are registry entries still standing for the version you installed and not allowing an overwrite. Other than manually go in and remove the entries( which could be touchy) you might try a program like CCleaner which will remove unused registry entries. After you have deleted all references to VWS you may be able to run this type of program and clear up the registry and then try for a clean install of the version of your choice. It's been awhile since I have had to go that route but as best I remember this is the way I worked around this sort of thing last time.

Axelvold,
Have you heard when it will be available for download? I just had a look and there was just 14.00 in the list of downloads?!
(Oh yes, I am sooooooo tired of having to fix data between all hickups)

Just for the h**k of it I installed 14.01p00 on my Vista (which is my weather production computer) Installed wo any problems and for VPP (serial) it did not mess with the communication settings - running looks pretty normal - will find out tomorrow by lunch time if it is more stabile even on the Vista - as compared to 14.00p104...
Keep your fingers crossed!

So far, after 12 hours no hickups, hangs, lost serial connections, or any other problems what so ever. Will update this log tonight (Swedish local time).

I have played a little with 7 and like some of what it 's capable of but it's the things that I am not aware it's capable of that prevents me from leaving my old stand by XP Pro! Probably will have to at some point but maybe by then all the bugs will be worked out

Hi W Thomas,
The thing to remember here is that W7 is the SECOND operating system built on the same code platform by MS. Yes, there are changes like anoter way of UAC. In fact You could see it as a parallel to the old Win98 Second Ed vs Win98 original. So, it should be much better right from the start. Naturally there are changes but most changes in form of additions (and of course new additions will be more likely to introduce bugs). As a benefit parts of the old code is better optimized (faster) - but that seldom introduces any new bugs. The most notable thing is that the driver base is exactly the same, so if there is a driver working in Vista it shall also work with W7.
Most things around software both in Vista and in W7 is in 64-bit versions, and with problems running 32-bit applications under the "emulation" [aka, Windows on Windows, WOW]. (Especially if there are not SIGNED drivers for 64-bit - that would prohibit a hardware and an app based on that hardware from working under 64-bit.
Note that if XP was better on memory management and not deragmenting memory and reused memory compared to Win NT and Win98, WinME - Then Vista is as much better in that respect than the differences were with the previously mentioned OS version!
And, BTW still absolutely NO PROBLEMS AT ALL RUNNING VWS 14.01p00 !
IngemarS
Still no problems

It may be more of a challenge for me to update to 7 since I never have updated to Vista. I did perform one update for a friend and noticed it placed all the old XP programs files etc in a folder old. something. I think we finally had to start fresh on that one. If there is a good way to totally back up all the data, settings and such that would make me restb a little easier LOL! Just hate the thoughts of doing all the settings again.. my luck I would not be as fortunate the second time around But I realize somewhere along the line..if I make it that far I will have to switch/upgrade OS... Guess it's plain old yeller! Or faint of heart LOL!

Hi again W Thomas,
Never heard of Vista upgrades placing XP-only-compatible files in a separate folder. And I have helped at least 15 people upgrading. However there are folder changes XP->Vista, but mostly for non-English speaking language versions (but there are hidden directories to deal with that fact). The main problem between XP and Vista is drivers! If you do not have drivers made for Vista, it can be tricky, but anyway, there are tools for checking an XP installation if it is compatible with Vista and a newer version of that software to test for compatibility with W7. F ex, Google for Vista Upgrade Advisor. In my cases I has been totally reliable!
STILL NO PROBLEM WHAT SO EVER RUNNING VWS 14.01p00! After almost 24 hours, and by now I usually would have had 3-5 real hickups!
Now I do not really keep my fingers crossed, I sit back and relax...
Cheers,
IngemarS

After 34 hours - "alpha/beta" 14.01p00 is still running (that has not ever happened with 14.00p104 if I recall correct).
Anyone else that is testing and have got experiences, either good or bad?
