Need advice what wheather station
« on: January 11, 2010, 03:37:45 PM »
Hi Guys, just would like to ask your expertise on what weather station you would suggest under $150.
All I am looking for is: in/out temperature and humidity, Barometric Pressure, Moon Phase.
Thank you for your help.

Not really. You will probably hear more advice leaning toward the OS equipment but I personally feel for the price range, get what best suits your needs/requirements. There are other manufacturers out there but these two seem to be the most popular.

I'd go with the WMR80A mainly because you get wind data and expansion options for additional sensors later if you want.

Haven't seen too many users on here mention good or bad things about Honeywell but this is another choice: http://www.nextag.com/Honeywell-TE923WD-Display-Unit-567752588/prices-html?nxtg=73040a28051d-25EB8A278E87FAD4 The few reviews that I read didn't look too bad either. (keeping within your $150 range, that is).

I would go with a Oregon Scientific WMR 968 Or one of the LaCrosse 23xx stations.  I have had both and they served well as a starter while I saved up more $$$$.

Although a bit more than you wanted to spend the OS 968 offers everything you need and is a VERY competent station for the money. I ran one for several years till I bought my Davis. Accurate, wireless and a full compliment of sensors along with a very nice console. Hard to beat.

One thing you do need to keep in mind is the range of the transmitters. This is true of all the lower cost setups.

There's Acu-Rite. They have more in the way of thermometer/barometer (and sometimes forecast) devices, without anemometers (wind) or anything outside.

I don't know anything about that particular station but you could go to Amazon.com and do a search for it and read the reviews written by users.  You need to take them with a grain of salt sometimes but you can get a general idea about them.  Good Luck!!!

From what I'm seeing it doesn't have wind sensors or computer interface capabilities. If you intend to connect it to the internet to upload your weather data you may not be able to with this unit.
