I have been receiving this message
Connections lost for direct USB. Please disconnect and reconnect.
since I have been using virtualVP. I'm running WD and WL at same time. I'm using SERIAL datalogger and redirection with VVP tcp/ip.

Seems WD don't disconnect but WL seems to disconnect and send this error message. I'm using WL 5.9.0 and VVP 1.2.3

Thanks.

We need more information about your setup.

Are you running VirtualVP and WD and WL on different computers?

if its a serial data logger (even if using a usb to serial adpator) then its a bit strange that WL is trying to detect a dropped out usb connection (i.e a usb data logger connection)

If that error message is being produced by WeatherLink, it almost sounds like a bug in WL 5.9.0. If it is connecting to VVP via serial or TCP/IP, a message about direct USB seems out of place. Have you tried downloading Davis' WL beta 5.9.1?

WD and WL on same computer. Redirecting serial port (no USB adpter) to TCP/IP.

Yes, and I have the same problem. I donwloaded WL 5.9.1 beta and test it few days and got this error once a day aprox.

WL 5.9.0 seems to be more stable but I'm already getting this error.

Any idea?

Thanks!

Still having the problem. Every day aproximately WL disconnects from VVP and sends this message. Then I must click on DISCONNECT on VVP and CONNECT. I don't know why WL gives this error because I'm using a pure SERIAL connection with datalogger on COM1.

Plesae help!

How are you redirecting the serial to TCP/IP? Do you have a DHCP IP address or a fixed address?

Fixed address, but I redirect to 127.0.0.1 loopback because VVP WL and WD are running at same computer.

Thnaks for your reply!

Still don't working ... I uninstalled and reinstalled WL and still not luck. WL stop receiving data once a day until I disconnect and connect VVP. The error message is the same as posted but I don't use USB connection!
WD 10,37P build 16
WL 5.9.1beta
VVP 1.2.3

Serial port connection -> TCP/IP 127.0.0.1 5511 and 5512 ports...

Any idea?

I might suggest using a serial port for your serial data logger... or switch to the USB or IP data logger.

Serial datalogger is connected to a serial port COM1 and worked perfect before purchase of VVP.  It should work with WL serial and VVP without expending more money...

Any more ideas?

Hi,

I am having this problem a lot lately, almost everyday, always at midnight. I am using the serial data logger.

WL v5.9.1 (official release not beta) & VVP v1.2.3 are running on the same Win7 64-bit computer.

I've attached a screen image & vvp log file

Dennis

PS: After noticing Weather-Watch was the "Official" forum for SoftWX, I posted this question there also.

I'm having this same lockup at 12:01.  Sometimes it's 12:01 AM and sometimes it's 12:01 PM.  I ended up going back to XP from Win 7 and the lockups still happen.  This issue was also present in WL v5.9.0.

If you drop back to WeatherLink 5.8.3 the problem will likely go away.  With WL5.9x versions I was seeing it (connection lost error and many unable to download errors) as well using a Serial logger.

The 5.9x versions are apparently much more sensitive the timing issues with the data transfers.  Even though they "Increased a timeout value to ensure High/Low data is received before uploading to CWOP or a personal website. Eliminates the “Data read error” when performing these uploads" in WL 5.91, it still gives various issues that seem to be affecting those of us running Virtual VP worse then those that are not.

I sent a note primarily about the USB connection lost error when running Serial to Davis about it a couple of weeks ago but so far have not received any reply.  IMHO it should retry the connection in the background especially on a Serial connection to the logger instead of just setting there waiting for the error popup to be cleared.  That just don't make any sense on software that spends a lot of time running unattended for most users.    Sad

If it only needs the pop up to be cleared, get an automatic util to do it for you.  Or write one using Autohotkey.

that still not get passed the fact that an all the time running program should not be having dialog boxes pop up that need closing before it can carry on
