... snip...
Another component of all of this that I didn't mention is that I'm just about to fulfill a lifelong dream of getting my private pilot certificate, and that's directly related to my interest in charting the weather, although what's going on at 10,000' AGL is obviously different than what's going on at 300' AGL in my backyard.

Wow, I want to see that installation - 300' AGL -  Shocked

Please take some pictures when you get it installed...  Laughing

Bought Davis Vantage Vue for my wife for Christmas for 285.99 @    http://www.homeweatherstations.com/   They are still on sale, best price ever, i also purchased the data logger there, this is simply a cable that has USB on one end to connect to your PC and Davis connector on the other end to connect to the weather station console. it also comes with the Davis software. $145.00.

I wound up ordering from Scientific Sales, located in Indiana. They're currently out of stock, but I am content to wait. I paid $279 for the Vue and $118 for the Weather Link, serial version. $285 is still an awfully good price, considering other places are still selling the Vue for $350 or more.

The "Davis connector" actually houses the data logger electronics, making it more than a simple cable.

Hi John, Thanks for the shoutout. and your Envoy will be there early next week!  Very Happy

All of the vendors Are in the same boat, Davis ran out of both stock and even parts to make more in December. They are scheduled to restart production third week of January and will start re-supplying distributors and dropshipping by the end of that week. which means last week of January for delivery.

Once we were able to confirm a definite delivery date, we did open up to orders again.. we just weren't going to leave folks hanging without one.

I am aware of at least one distributor who does still have them in stock, but they have raised the price significantly, so that is the option. I suspect that at the end of January everyone will be back around $300.

I definitely need an Envoy, but that's one expense that will have to wait awhile. Rome wasn't built in a day, though.
