Just took delivery of my first Davis, a nice Vue but a problem that somebody wrote about but I've been unable to locate the file...

I think it was Steve who wrote...
"When you pick "USB" as the connection method in the WeatherLink software, it sets the data logger into "USB Express" mode. Once the data logger is put into that mode, is will not work with the USB to serial driver that Davis provides. To take the data logger out of USB Express mode, you have to run a separate utility program."

What I want is this utilty program which I cannot find on the disc or on the Davis website can anyone help please?
Before I yank out the rest of my hair.... Sad

It's also generally available (in recent WL versions at least) from the set of Weatherlink menu options on the Windows start button. Exactly what it's called varies with the WL version - there might be a CP210x in the title or 'Convert USB to virtual serial' or some such.

But I'm curious as to why you might want to leave USBXpress mode - in general it works well and it's probably the more robust mode to use, unless you need eg compatibility with the Virtual VP utility.

Bushman thanks for the reply but not sure if this what I'm after... I thought it was another program that will allow me to run a 3rd party software as when trying to run it I am getting a Error -32701 while trying to initialise the station message.

Johnd I want to run software called Cumulus which should run ok but reading the manual for weatherlink I misunderstood the part about emulating a serial port and selected USB, and that the datalogger is given a unique serial number once you select this and I thought the program I should have been looking for cured this mistake feeling totally confused  Sad it looks like I am not going to be able to use this software.

IT WORKS!!!!!! I never spotted the auto-detect in weatherlink ran that and it found port 5, the software I use suddendly burst into life once I entered that port number

Many thanks for you help, I found the software on the disc it needs the dll file to go with it otherwise it would not run, run the CP210X program went into the comms selected serial and did an auto detect and it works...

Phew was I glad...

If you want to run multiple wx software simultaneously, you need VVP from softwx.com

Any way, glad it is all going for you.
