My current computer has serial ports. When upgrade this computer, will a USB to serial adapter work with WeatherLink?

Yes.  As long as the adapter has good drivers for Vista or Win 7.

Do you mean that the serial to USB adapter comes with or needs a set of drivers to operate properly? I am going to bypass Vista and go straight to Win 7. Hopefully that will save me some problems.

Yes it does.  Jumping to Win 7 might put you out on the bleeding edge as far as driver development goes.  You would think that serial-USB adapters would be some of the first devices to offer Win 7 certified drivers, but you never know.

I'm just cautioning that you research the Win 7 serial-USB driver problem reports before making the jump to the new OS. Frankly I'm not sure which of the serial-USB chip makers even have Win 7 drivers posted now if any?

As a backup make sure your new pc has a few extra PCI slots... (at least 2, 3 better)

then you can get a serial port card...
and a Boltek
......and a player to be named later.

My PC has USB and the Davis connection serial. I'm sure they make both connections for all types.
