Whew, that was a close one. Been enjoying all the "hype" I have been seeing in media (mainly documentaries), about the earths demise.

{more hype} 2019 is the year that we invent time travel. Hence, the whole continuum will be destroyed, or, time won't matter because we pick and choose the point of time we care to reside. The strange observations (UFO's) are actually us flitting in and out of this era using post 2019 vehicles.

I was thinking maybe the Mayans were predicting the flip in the polarity of the earth.
(North and south magnetic poles flip)
It could happen at anytime and is long overdue.

These "END OF THE WORLD" fads are always amusing to observe! Some people REALLY get wigged out by these things. I remember that woman that was all over the Art Bell show a few years back talking about that MYSTERY PLANET that was on the other side of the sun, so we couldn't see it, and it was going to hit the earth! When D-DAY came and went, the excuses this wing-nut of a woman came up with were hilarious!
The problem with ignorant people who start these IGNORANT rumors, to scare other ignorant people, is that their ignorance prevents them from grasping things like GRAVITATIONAL EFFECT on orbiting bodies, seen or not seen, etc. Even a basic knowledge of orbital physics would make the idea of an undiscovered planet in our inner solar system a ridiculous claim.
The FLIP of the polarity of the planet is REAL and as was said, long overdue. This IS something to be concerned about because when this happens, all of our electronics will STOP working, burn out, or at the very least start running in reverse!

I beleive NOVA, or another program on PBS (can't remember ), did a program about the Earths' magnetic field and how they believed it has started to flip. They talked about channges in the South Atlantic in the South Atlantic Anomaly. It was very interesting.

I believe part of the concept is that the unusual planetary alignment due around that time period is thought to have the potential to cause enough of a gravitational anomoly to hasten the pole shift.

I very much doubt that! a change in earths magnetic field is not going to have any affect on a permanent magnet used in a electric motor The problem with ignorant people who start these IGNORANT rumors, to scare other ignorant people maybe you need to re read what you just posted or maybe you are just being funny?

I agree but I think think the concern there is EMF pulses created from fluctuations in the field as it reverses causing problems. The power grid being the weakest point in that scenario. If it goes far enough to start blowing electronic circuits similar to a close but non contacting lighting strike through induction around the world, we'll all wish we were dead after a few days or weeks of that anyway. The changing of the field won't kill us. It will be the peoples reaction to it that will.

I was being OVERLY DRAMATIC, to drive home my previous point about this kind of hysteria. So yes... Somewhat tongue in cheek... Have you seen the ads for the movie 2012 yet? However, since we have never had this happen before with all of our technology, no one can really say for sure what is actually going to happen. The most concerning thing I have read about all this, is that the possibility that the magnetic field could be reduced by a significant amount during the transition, which would leave the earth's surface exposed to everything the Sun throws our way. I wouldn't rule out a good deal of problems with electricity in general too, maybe not motors going backwards, but so many problems with our power systems (generators, grids etc.) that we don't have any power to test these theories anyway! I am far more concerned about Climate Change than this though. There is no doubt in my mind about what kind of hell we have already unleased on ourselves. Kind of like the guy in the movie The Birds. The one who lights the cigarrette after the gas station is gushing fuel from all the busted pumps? The fuel is human produced CO2, the match he throws down is our stupidity, the huge fireball is our reward for denying that stupidity.

Hmmm, imagine 2 bar magnets close to each other on a smooth surface with both of their poles in the same direction. Their fields are close enough to interact with each other such as the Earth's with the Sun. Now flip one of the magnets 180 degrees around and if the other is close enough it should react by flipping around as well or drawn in toward the one you rotated. Now, if the earth's magnetic field that is interacting with the sun's were to flip around 180 degrees, could be interesting to say the least. Please fasten your seatbelt and put your tray in the upright position.

ROFL I read that and the first thing I thought of was "Two magnets walk into a bar and...."

That already happens roughly every 22 years. Unlike the earth, the sun flips it's field every 11 years at roughly the peak of the sunspot cycle. http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2001/ast15feb_1.htmNot unlike other topics along this venue (climate and geological change, being hit by a large outer space rock, etc.) we can debate and theorize until it happens. But only God and the dinosaurs know what really happens during the event. The dinosaurs are no longer talking and the word of God as we know depends somewhat to which one your praying to. For me I tend to follow the thought of a departed friend and coworker. He always said something along the lines of 'I will worry about tomorrow if/when it comes. I might wake up dead in the morning and the worry today about tomorrow would have been for naught.' (He'd overcome alcoholism and being overweight only to die of lung cancer in his mid 60's at least partly due to smoking to help deal with the lingering nerves from the first and avoid a repeat of the second. )
