I saw today that the Weather Channel has decided to start showing movies and the first movie is on 30 Oct d'oh! Rolling Eyes.  It's easy to guess what movie they chose:  "The Perfect Storm".
What is next for the WC?  I don't care cause I won't be watching Brick wall Evil or Very Mad!!!

Sad  A shame!  It's become a commercialized piece of junk!
Ratings...that's all that matters.
Too bad.

The original premise was an excellent one.

NEVER watch it!

Nothing but a shill for commercials.

One night I timed the actual program segments.  They are HALF as long as the commercial breaks!

What a joke!   I am surprised that they are still on the air!  Rolling Eyes

What is next for the WC?

How about a Weather Channel "Classic" channel?

I can hear the promos now...

"Don't miss our Hurricane Andrew special, a re-airing of our August 23, 1992 evening broadcast, this Sunday starting at 8pm Eastern, featuring reports and expert analysis from Jim Cantore and hurricane expert John Hope, God rest his soul."

 d'oh!

I would not put it past them.  It is so sad Sad to see what they are today as compared to what they used to be.  I can remember watching as much as I could.  I could not get enough.  Now, anything is too much!!  I wish they would listen to the weather "geeks" and go back to what made them "The" Weather Channel!!

I was a diehard fan as well.  As a kid, I would even watch the blue screen on the national satellite feed, pretending that I was actually watching a Sally Struthers commercial instead.

I think NBC has the finger of death right now.

They have taken over 'Fanball' - the server system for fantasy football.
It really stinks this year. (putting it nicely)

I don't see why TWC needs to break from programming and show movies.

I agree with you.  I don't know why the people just cannot leave well enough alone.  They seem to have a real need to change what is just perfect already and make it into crap!  It happens all the time it seems with what good shows there are.
I suppose it's too much to hope that one of the bosses is lurking on our forum and reading these posts.  If you are "GO back to the original Weather Channel"!! If you are lurking and won't go back "kick yourself in the ...."!!! Applause Dancing

Like I said a while back, NOAA needs to start a channel along the lines of CSPAN or the NASA Channel.

You guys have to remember back when they started out there wasn't a whole lot of weather info on the net. At the time they were cutting edge with things like radar and satellite.
Now a days everything you need is on your computer so people don't have as big a need for the channel.
People like us who the channel cut there teeth on now have no need for them.
They had to "fluff" it up to attract a different crowd which also drove us away.
I think eventually they will go under but at one time that channel ran pretty much 24-7 in my house.

I was going to mention HBO too... stopped watching it when they started airing reality shows.

If The Weather Channel needs to reinvent itself, they could air something interesting, such as some soft weather-related porn, although I think they'd have to do it at 11:00 and air alternative programming (such as a test pattern) in the 8:00 slot.

"weather- related porn" ?
Are you suggesting they take the European approach to delivering weather news. Smile

I only do that when it snows (nothing to "draw" on otherwise), and I don't think I'd want to watch someone else do it.

I wish someone would come along with some money and launch "Weather TV: All Weather All the Time" You would be able to turn it on and within just a few minutes get a forecast for your region.

Something that doesn't show movies (especially movies that are only barely related to the weather), that doesn't have news on in the morning, that doesn't have any freakin' thing to do with Al Roker, and a network that would actually inform people with information rather than try to steer them in a political direction with propaganda.

Good Idea!

I wonder why they don't think about it?

I have gotten to the point that I just leave the tv on my local "weather channel".  It is a station that basically shows the radar 24/7 on the left side of the screen, with the Highs and lows at the bottom, and "canned" videos on the right from Accuweather.com and maybe 4 times an hour a repeat of the my local news stations forecast.
