September tornado reports lowest in many years

It was unusually quiet last month when it comes to tornadoes-so I went and looked at past data from the Storm Prediction Center through 2000 and  then looked at  data from the National Climatic Data Center and found that the month of September recorded the lowest number of tornado reports since the early 1950s!!!

   I wonder what this means in terms of Global warming? I am sure they will come up with something.

could be something to do with the unusual position of the jet stream over USA lately?
(which has meant less Hurricanes in the Atlantic as well)

Interstingly, we're also low on severe weather watches by 150 or so.  Last night WW0761 was issued while on the same date in 2008 WW0913 was issued.

October is making up for it.  There are four tornado warnings in TN/AL/MS right now and bunches of sever thunderstorm warnings.  It's gonna be a rough night.     (I thought autumn was supposed to be dry and calm!)

Dodging tornadoes tonight!  So far there's none here, but they're all around.  Geeze, I thought autumn was supposed to be calm!

I just heard on the scanner that there  is a funnel cloud spotted in the next county to my east (from the storm that  came through here earlier).  I hope everyone there is ok.

We've been lucky all along with this system as the heavy rain and storms has remained to our South.  Casey county in Kentucky is showing they had and EF2 tornado.  Still see warnings in TN.

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. (AP) - The National Weather Service has confirmed tornado touchdowns during storms Friday in Marion, Monroe and McMinn counties.

A report by meteorologist Tim Troutman in the Morristown office said assessment teams confirmed there was evidence that EF0 tornadoes touched down. None caused any injury or structure damage.

An EF0 is the weakest designation for tornadoes.

The weather service said a tornado near Jasper traveled two miles on the ground.

Another near Haletown traveled on a short distance.

A tornado near Englewood in Monroe County was on the ground for only a brief time as was one near Niota.

The wind speeds in the tornadoes was 70-80 mph.
