Looks that way.. What's new in 5.9.1
1. Increased effectiveness in detecting a USB driver dropout. Driver will be restarted automatically and a note will be put into the View Log fie. 2. Increased a timeout value to ensure High/Low data is received before uploading to CWOP or a personal website. Eliminates the “Data read error” when performing these uploads. 3. Fixed Open Plot problem introduced in 5.9.0. 4. Air density unit can now be set to “kg/cu m” or “lb/cu.ft”. 5. Streaming Data Utility updated with a new field of "Max Effective Rain Total". 6. Changed default values in Streaming Data Utility. 7. .NET is not included in this web download. If needed, installation will download it from Microsoft. http://davisnet.com/support/weather/software.asp

Where's the line that says:

But would anyone ever really expect it to work _concurrently_ (unless you use VVP of course) - that's not a Weatherlink problem, it's to do with how PC hardware like serial and USB ports behaves.

I downloaded and installed it and it wouldn't recognize my cfg file. Gave me nothing but problems, so I downloaded 5.8.3 and sticking with that. Davis' s explanation it is built for 64 bit computers yet. that is hard to believe they haven't moved in that direction yet...

Using VVP goes without saying with concurrent usage, doesn't it? It became a WLink problem to me when, only after upgrading to 5.9.x, it decided to completely revolt under VVP usage. Rolling back to 5.8.3 cured it for me (and I think some others as well). I won't run 5.9.x until everyone here has no problems with it.

OK, you're here, you're running 5.8.3, so that's self-fulfilling prophecy. I sympathize - but has Davis ever said that WeatherLink is compatible with VVP? Does VVP say that it's compatible with WeatherLink?

Does VVP say that it's compatible with WeatherLink?
My VVP has been running VWS, WD, WL, and a TCP/IP port for a serial-ethernet adapter for >113 days now. I doubt Davis would say WL was compatible, if only that VVP is not a Davis product and they wouldn't want to support it. OTOH, VVP makes virtual ports LOOK like VPs or Vues over virtual ports, so any well-written program shouldn't be able to tell the difference. That's the whole point...

Does VVP say that it's compatible with WeatherLink?
Being that VVP has a nifty graphic of a Davis Console on it, that would impress me as being more use-specific to a Davis Console and being the data logger is bundled with WLink, I would have to conclude that compatibility is very much implied. Removing assumption - the VVP Docs states that it "allows you to safely connect multiple weather programs to a single Vantage Pro, Vantage Pro2, or Envoy device." Illustrations thru-out include screenshots of our favorite softwares and even WeatherLink. 5.9.x sure threw a wrench into the mix and VVP is too sweet & smooth for me to worry about using that version when none of the improvements to it really affect me (as far as I know).

Especially since (in general) VVP users never seem to post what version of VVP they are using. Seriously - if whatever you are using is working, and has all the features you need, there's no reason to change.

....How will you know? You're expecting everybody running VVP to report having "no problems"? Well sure. People don't always come here just to complain you know. Especially since (in general) VVP users never seem to post what version of VVP they are using. We're lucky to know what weather station is in use on a lot of newbie posts. At least if they are using VVP that narrows the field a bit. Seriously - if whatever you are using is working, and has all the features you need, there's no reason to change.
Yeah but for every piece of software I run there is at least one little nagging quirk and for me anyway it is only a matter of time before the curiosity of what new quirk maybe lurking in the upgrade gets to me and I breakdown and try it. I have a three day weekend coming up thanks to my work hours being cut again. So I'll probably get the chance to load it on my laptop first and see if there is any improvement over the beta 5.91 I tried before going to the trouble of putting it back on the weather computer.

He just fixed a bug to make it compatible in that version w/ 64 bit. It's running fine on my 12 year old 466Mhz weather computer.

....I won't run 5.9.x until everyone here running VirtualVP has no problems with it. Well I tried it both on my laptop and the regular weather computer since it is tied direct to the station via serial port just to be sure of my findings. Also tried is briefly tied into Virtual VP via tcp/ip connection rather then my usual comport. Results the same. My download errors went from 4/day Thursday with 5.8.3 to over 20 today with 5.9.1. (Downloading every 15 minutes.) Worse was I had two "connection lost" errors in which WeatherLink sets there waiting for the error to be cleared and does not seem to even attempt reconnection in the background. (Both times it sat that way for about 6 hours before I discovered it had stopped running.) For software that is often running unattended possibly for days at a time by it's users that's lousy coding right there if you ask me.

Reporting the problems here is great - but it won't get the problems fixed.

I'm still trying to decide whether to report it to Davis or Tinplate @ SoftWx. (Thus the poll I just posted.) If this is truly a Virtual VP issue, reporting it to Davis would probably be little more then a waste of time. Edit, Last time I tried to get a software issue resolved with Davis I never did get any reply. The front line mechanical support guys (who have always been great when contacted) tried several times to get me some help from the WL software folk with no luck. This was several years ago on a dial up issue. Maybe they are better now?

I think your right. Seems like I read somewhere there were additional data transfers or commands going on with the firmware in the Vue console compared to the VP. Also off hand I don't recall anyone posting using VirtualVP with a Vue yet. That was one question I thought I could solve with the poll. Last I heard Steve was still not transferring all of the possible commands through VirtualVP for the VP in the console settings area. I'm sure this change has made a real headache for him. Come to that probably for the software guy at Davis too.
