Hello all.

I have the original Davis Vantage Pro's (16 of them) and I want to use this WeatherLink 5.7 to output the data via HTML. When I look at this equipment I see a data logger sticking out of the back of the unit with a phone wire...my question is does anyone know of a site that will show me how to get this phone cable connected to the CPU? I would assume that it is not going to a modem so my guess is that it will use a RJ-11 to serial connection?

Thanks for your help.

I also have a Davis original Vantage Pro with datalogger.  The short cable with RJ11 plug goes to a cable supplied by Davis that has a RJ11 jack on one end and a DB9 serial connector (male) on the other end.

A quick jaunt through the Davis site (www.davisnet.com ) failed to turn up a pinout for the RJ11jack to DB9 serial -- you can call their tech support for that Smile

Best regards,
Ken

Hi!
    I bought, years ago an adapter from my computer to the phone line.  Now, due to age mostly, can't recall for sure, but I think it was a DB-9!

Thanks Guys.. I will look around and see if I can find this cable. If not I will get ahold of them and see about getting 16 of them.

I can get you the DB9 pinout on a WM II and VP 2. They are a little tricky because Davis jumpers some of the handshaking lines inside the modular<-> DB9 adapter. The original VP should be very similar.

One of the forum members might be able to pop one open and post the connections. If so, you could likely make your own for a lot less than Davis will sell them to you.

I will keep that in mind. We are the USAF so money is not an issue. I am hoping that the cable came with my sensors, and that I just have to find them.

Even if money is an object, the real things are cheap enough so you probably just want to order them:
http://www.davisnet.com/weather/products/weather_product.asp?pnum=07953
That's the Davis RJ-14 -> DB-9 connector, and they're only $7.00 each.  An additional $7.00 will get you an 8' cable:  http://www.davisnet.com/weather/products/weather_product.asp?pnum=07950
but you'd need to add the $6.00 RJ-14 6-pin coupler to connect the one end to the data logger:
