Every time the computer goes in standby or off, the outside daily high temp comes back at around 20C at 12:39am. I can't see any other issues. Yes I know the first answer, leave it on 24/7. Simply unacceptable, there's such a thing as Windows update which must restart a computer occasionally. Is there any real solution to this from anyone here or Ambient (who incidentally have not helped me very much, just referred me here!).

I do not let Windows automatically download and restart for that exact reason and others. I let it notify me and I make the decision when to download, when to install and when to restart. So, I close down VWS first preventing that kind of problem and others. I've seen several instances where Windows has screwed up things, I only use it, I don't trust it.

+1 to the above.
Also, don't use any power management. No standby or anything like that. That is a bad practice to get into on a weather machine, that is working all the time.

Well I took everyone's advice here that weather computers are not meant to be shutdown, but even with closing the program properly and restarting windows manually, the outside daily high temp still comes back at 20 at 12.39am unerringly.
It shows on the color spectrum, and in the recall daily archive.
I don't think the wind speed and humidity are right either, which seem to have a predilection for the time 12:39am and show the max chill as 20C when the wind was at a daily low.
Something not right about this program.

Is your install of VWS on a freshly OS installed machine that will be for dedicated WX use or is it on your general use everyday computer? The reason I ask this, is many people set aside a dedicated WX machine, that once you get things working right you don't mess with it. The reason you are having these problems can be Computer/Software related or interference in the cable connection, or even a bad console. I would start first with a complete power down and reset of the console, then perhaps swap out your data cable with another, then perhaps on to a backup and re-install of VWS, and then lastly perhaps a complete OS wipe and reinstall of Windows on your machine. It could be so many things that could effect it.
Another Idea that popped into my head, is your machine power managing your communication port. Check for that and turn that option off.

Gulp! Reinstall windows! As you might guess, there's lots of other stuff on this computer, and I'd rather wrestle with a sabre-toothed tiger instead of reformatting my drive: last resort. And I'm really not into the weather to the extent of a separate computer. It certainly could be some conflict, but the unit is new - Rainwise with a computer serial interface, no console needed as it has its own wireless interface, and what is strange is that there is no problem with communication except when the program is closed.

Yes, the re-install may become of last resort. However if you have a spare hard drive around, you could swap it out with your regular OS hard drive just as a test bed. I usually do this every time I re-install the OS on my machines. That way if I forget to "port" something over, I can always easily plug the old system back in and be back up in minutes. I also do the same thing when I want to test a "new" OS like Vista or Windows 7 without trashing my prior OS.

This program has me totally confused. When looking at the data folder, there is nothing there except the times, no parameters, max, min. etc. But recalling the data archives within the program seems to be no problem.
Shouldn't there be some data within these daily or archive folders in data?

VWS creates Data, Archives, etc. folders in multiple locations. It all depends if you use the function during setup to create another "station". Do a windows file search of the VWS folder that shows the most currently up to date files, then you can "back trace" the folder location for what you are looking for. After you find those important folders make a shortcut on your desktop to them for easy access, without having to drill down through VWS so much. <<<<---- That's what I did.
