Next summer , I am thinking of giving the usual Florida/ 'Vegas thing a miss, and would dearly like to partake of some supercell "thrash ". Not looking to chase twisters, just want to get some daily action with those brooding, malevolent shelf-line bruisers the likes of which there's lots o' pix of on various forums . Can anyone, therefore make any recommendations of where to head for ,possibly around the period May to, say, August time. Not sure when my leave will be next year , will find out in a couple of months . If there's somewhere with a bit of "tourist-trap" potential ,  and other things to do  then that may possibly keep the missus quiet , for a time , at least .She be sH1T -scared of this kind of thing , and is convinced every bolt has her name on it  ! Does anyone know how you stand with regard to rental cars damaged by mongo-hail, also ? Who gets stiffed with the tab for that, then ? Questions, questions......

Do a google search for "tornado vacations" and  it will show you some tours you can take for vacation in search of tornadoes!   Cool Shocked

PS EDIT: Whenever you are looking for supercell excitement you are also chasing tornadoes

I think you're the kind of people that needs to stay as far away as possible from severe storms.  Maybe northern Ontario?

Part of that is true. Some supercells never produce tornadoes..but in this case, when is there one that doesn't?

fatbloke-dim, if you're looking for supercells from May to August, you'll be better off sitting in a hotel room for about 5 hours a day staring at a laptop screen..the best time for storm chasing is March to June..though this year, it kind of spiked into July. Another best bet for chasing is in the fall months..say late September through November. It is rare to see severe storms (but none-the-less possible) in the winter across the Midwest. Happy hunting!

Thanx,all'
you've given me something to go at . I may be able to swing my leave to early summer, say  May-June.Come to think of it, I would even settle for some lesser storms . Supercells would be nice, but given that I've missed all the action we've had in the U.K. this summer ,due to being away on vacation to less stormy climes, I may be forced to lower my expectations just to get some T-storm  action , I really crave it !, I suppose anywhere there are "regular" summer storms will be fine, so long as they are fairly dependable - that's starting to sound like FL. again.......

Once again , thank you all for your input , it's all appreciated .

I wouldn't even call that a dedicated forum. Rather, it has one thread devoted to weather, and the rest of threads are non-weather related. I mean c'mon, Politics in a website "devoted" to Supercell thunderstorms? I don't think that's a weather website.

You are right there.  I was looking deeper into the web site today and found the politics you mentioned.  As for the forum when I joined the other day I was only the 6th member and the members before me joined earlier in the day or the day before me.  I couldn't even find any posts.

I guess give it some time..like maybe a year or two. The moderator might actually think for a minute, and actually devote it to SUPERCELLS and not just one thread for weather, and the rest a bunch of random stuff.  Shame on you
