What do I need to put in the code to get the moon phase jpg to show up?

Not to be a wise-guy, but I'm going to give you the page numbers and instructions on how to find the answer to your question yourself by reading and/or searching the VWS User Manual...

First of all, you can get to the current user manual simply by opening up VWS and then clicking on the Help item in the toolbar. Then click on "User's Manual" . You can also just click Ctl-M to get to the user manual listings on your system.

The following assumes you have a User Manual with a date code of 5/15/07 which I think is the latest version. This is a PDF file so you will be able to search for any text item you want once it is opened. In the search box enter "moon phase" and hit Enter. This will bring you to the first occurrence of "moon phase" (or whatever you type in the search box). Then click on the left or right arrows next to the search box to go find the next occurrence. You will eventually get to Pg 76 which shows you the code and character combinations needed to display the Moon Phase on your webpage.

It's pretty simple and only takes a few seconds to look up your questions. It's also a lot faster than posting a question and waiting for an answer.

Sorry for the lecture, if I've been a bit short but this forum gets a lot of questions that really wouldn't have to be answered if only folks would take the time to do some research on their own and read that fine manual (RTFM -  Wink).

Do you have it set up on your vws desktop?

And uploading it to your image file?

ftp -ing it to your website?

W3 wasn't being a smarty.  Just explaining where and how to get to the info in the manual.  Very helpful.

Are you using <img src=vws1157.jpg> for your html address tag? You don't use the "^" characters if you are referencing a jpg image itself. The image gets generated automatically by VWS but ONLY if you have it in your main VWS display panel. The file should be located in C:\vws\root\vws1157.jpg. Also, be sure you check that you are using the exact same case for the filename as some browsers won't display the target filename if it isn't spelled exactly correctly and with the same case. i.e., vws1157.JPG may cause problems in some browsers.

And no, I wasn't trying to be a "smarty" - only trying help you find things yourself in the future. I and others are more than willing to answer "any" question that may be posted. Some may just not like the way we answer them...

One additional note. You should NOT have to separately upload any image files that are contained in the VWS Display Panel. They automatically get uploaded during the processing that takes place by VWS. You only need to upload your processed htx files and other supporting files you want to access on your website.

There is no need making VWS do extra work or to increase the FTP loads...

No problem. I just looked at your website. Very nice! Are you trying to use the vws1157.jpg image separately within your webpages? I can see the moon phase image that comes from weatherunderground.

Let us know if you need any additional help. You could also upload your test files in a sub-directory on your website to work on it and let us give you a hand - if that's what you want to do. Just a suggestion that might help you get your new pages going quicker.

You can see it at www.leomaweather.com/test.php Then just follow the links in the drop down menu. Most are not finished yet. I am looking for a good color for the pages I would like to keep the banner I have so the colors would need to match some what.

Your new site looks really nice and clean. Make sure you have the same header, text and navigation menu bar on all pages. The only thing that should change is the content below the navigation menu bar. That way everything is consistent and the viewer won't have any problems navigating from page to page.

Suggestion - take a look at Ken True's website (http://saratoga-weather.org/scripts-NOAATXT.php#NOAAtxtPHP) under his Scripts pages. You will find tons of information about automating many of the reports (NOAA, etc). I have been using his NOAA script for several years now and it just runs without any problems at all. You can adjust text and background colors to anything you want. Mine can be found at http://www.carsonvalleyweather.com/NOAA-reports.php.

Thanks for the link to the latest VWS User Manual! I've downloaded it to my C:\VWS\HELP folder.

One note though. There appears to be an error in the Jpeg File Index table. It shows the correct code for the Moon Phase jpeg image to be "1151" and not "1157" which is what should be listed. A search for 1157 doesn't find any hit on either the new or older versions of the User Manual back to 06/09/2005. So, I can only assume Ed has not updated that table for quite some time now. There may be other jpeg's that are also incorrectly referenced in that table so be aware that you may not get what you are expecting. Always check the \ROOT folder to make sure you have the correct jpeg filename you are referencing in your HTML code.

For those who are not familiar with how VWS opens User Manual files here is a tip for you:

When you open VWS and click on the HELP | User's Manual link in the toolbar, VWS will display a list of all files in the \HELP folder so you can name them whatever you want.

So, download the current version of the User Manual into the C:\VWS\HELP folder (assuming you are using the standard installation on the C: drive. I always rename the file so it reflects the date of the manual. i.e., vwsmanual-2009-06-19.pdf for the current version.
