Does this link still work ? http://ftp://noaa.gov/data/forecasts/city/ca/los_angeles.txt  I just noticed that there is no data being received. I deleted an old forecast.txt and it was not replaced when I hit download now. I should get some data even though it is the wrong town of course. Our web programmer here at work creates the graphic php forecast based on the forecast.txt file.

Anyone using the forecast.txt feature ? The one we used to get was a 5 day forecast. It had stats for each day and ended with a line .... icon = 'weather condition' . The link is broken because we do not receive data. I have tried to search for the ftp source but can't find it. Anyone got any ideas ?

Here is the format of the ftp I was getting but lost the link. Our web programmer triggers icons from the 'icon' line. Anyone know if this still exists ?

The NOAA ftp site is ftp://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/.  I looked around but didn't see anything similar to your post.

Your file text format matches the files I am still getting (knock on wood  Wink ) from VWS in the weather underground tab.  I tried LA from that link and also got an error message.

I also DL other files from NOAA using VWS in the internet tab.  You can view the contents of the NOAA server directories and files using your web browser.  This link should show several city forecasts in California ...  LA is not in the list.

This link does show a lot of 5 day forecasts for the Southern California area but the format is not the same.  I have dropped a lot of the locations here to shorten this post.

Thank YOU !!!! Could you paste or type in the link that generates the same format like I described ? I would appreciate it. You said it was from WU ? hmmm. Don't remember adding that one. Anyway the web page depends on that exact file and the university web programmer is deep in 3 major projects and to the university this is just department toy.

I could not find a direct link to the file with that format.  The way I get my local file in that format is in
VWS = Weather Underground tab = 5 Day forecast.
Then enter the name of the city/state or Zip code you want.

See this image from my PC screen:
http://irontonwebcams.com/wxpost/image.jpg

I was able to enter a zip code from the LA area (just a random choice by me) and get this file to download:
http://irontonwebcams.com/wxpost/laca.txt

You should be able to use a zip code of the area you prefer.  VWS should get the file and place it in your VWS 5 day forecast folder.  my path is: vws/data/forecast5/xxx.txt

Hope this helps.

This is a text file that about I think 2 years ago I set up to be FTP'ed in and the programmer used it to trigger the icons. The window you show in VWS I know how to do but I need to find out if that text file is still available in the format I showed earlier.

NWS have made a lot of server changes over the past couple of years. It is very possible that file is no longer created, has been replaced/changed or moved all together.

Ironton, your screen capture got me thinking....Item 1 is a forecast for the first zip code and on the weather computer there is a text file 1.txt that is in the format I need. Now I am puzzled over how the forecast.txt file was generated years ago when my programmer set up the page. I am going to see if he will change his php code to reflect this and I will have fixed one problem. One strange thing is that the file is in the folder forecast5 and not forecast. Not sure why this is happening either. Very strange. I thought about setting 1.txt to upload as forecast.txt as temp fix. Not sure what got changed where....

I thought the file was coming from an external ftp site like NWS or NOAA. Turns out the file is generated by VWS and gets the data from WU ! I was looking in the wrong place. Now I gotta figure out how the 'forecast.txt' was generated and why the 1.txt (which is in the format that I need) is being put in the folder forecast5 . I am ready to pull the web page from the departmental server it is on and move it to a university server.

You may know this, but just in case....
VWS will rename the 1.txt file to any name you want and place it in the directory you want.  Use the Internet => HTML Setting screen to do this just like you would with an HTX file.
Sounds like you are getting closer.

Yep gotcha on that one. However, somehow I got it to generate the file just once and now it wont. Something strange here.....maybe a few brew-pops will help me figure this one out.

LOL ! Funny thing is....the family and the beer are connected. That's when we were Von Bock in the old country and we had a good reputation....that is until a great grand uncle appeared on the cover of Time Magazine in the 40's. Fedor Von Bock was in charge of the Moscow campaign and was all Nazi. Wondered why I like beer so much.....
