I have a copy of VWS 14.00 p42 running on the PC in my observatory, with a rainwise MK-III weather station. This all works very well, but I'm missing the ability to monitor the temperature and humidity inside of the observatory dome.

So there are several possible choices for temp / humidity monitoring, like the Oregon Scientific RMS300A http://www.ambientweather.com/orrms300a.html.

However, it's not obvious to me how to configure VWS to communicate with both the rainwise MK-III and the RMS300A on the same PC. Is this possible? Or do I need to install VWS on two PCs, one in the dome with the RMS300A (so that I can monitor temp & humidity), and one somewhere else with the Rainwise computer interface connected?

What would be ideal would be to have both connected to the observatory PC, with data from both sources displayed on one screen.

You could do it this way:

Are you wanting to connect two stations to VWS so that it produces one display combining the inputs of both stations ?

I would prefer to do it like that if possible. The point is to provide information on the conditions in and around the observatory dome.

I could take the suggestion of running two copies of VWS, although that wouldn't give me the combined display. I'm a little concerned about the resources involved in running two copies though - the PC with the weather station link is in the dome, and it is really responsible for driving the dome and telescope first and foremost. But I can look into that idea anyway.

Please be aware that the licensing of VWS is per weather station so by connecting two stations to one copy or duplicating your current copy and connecting a second station to it is actually infringing your software license.

The simple answer to your question is no. You probably either need to get a different weather sttion that has the ability to add additional sensors. Or purchase two copys of VWS.

I am in a similar situation. I have a Rainwise MK-III attached via the serial pory and export data to Homeseer. On Homeseer, I have additional sensors (UV as an example) that I can export as a CSV file. What I want to do is to continue using the Rainwise as the main data source, bu also pick up the additional sensors from a CSV file and merge the data.

Does the fact that the additional sensor data is just a CSV file make this possible?

Well, the rainwise station was pretty pricey, and it's already installed high up upon a pole - so getting a different station doesn't seem too practical. Sad

I don't mind purchasing a second copy of VWS - that is a whole lot less expensive.

You might want to run your questions by Ed over at ambientweather and see if he has any suggestions.

My copy of VWS has an option under settings called Multiple station setting. When you open that box inside one button say Create New Station and just below is button that says Recall Existing Station. I don't know if this is what your looking for and I have never fooled with that box, but it sound like something to do with connecting more then one station.

I think this is use if you switch stations. For example if you currently have an OS and you upgrade to a Davis.

I didn't use that when i upgraded here from LaCrosse to Davis, i just changed the settings.

My thougt is that is for use to add and switch between two stations, just my thougt but not sure.

Maybe thats was what you meen to, if you keep the OS station in your example.

I think this is use if you switch stations. For example if you currently have an OS and you upgrade to a Davis.

Below is a response I got back from Ed. on this topic after I email him about the Multiple station setting box.

If you have more then one weather station, you can create a different path on your computer and save all of the variables for this other weather station.

This allows you to switch back and forth between stations.

This was requested by WeatherHawk.

Regards,

Ed

Hi Ed. Could you  explain what Multiple station setting box is used for. People on the Wxforum.net are thinking two different meaning? Thanks
