Hey guys:  I just updated to the latest version of VWS (v13.01 p.00) yesterday.  Everything was fine until earlier this evening when it locked up.  I did a restart, and now the only icon displaying is the default "Clear" icon. I've checked all my settings, so I don't know what happened Sad

This may sound crazy, but shutdown and power off your machine for about 3 to 5 minutes.  Turn it back on and test again.  Go back in and check your metar settings again.

Thanks Greg, I did what you said, but the icon is still clear.  Should I re-install VWS?

Well I don't know what I did, but the icons are displaying properly again.  Go figure!

I"ve run into the stale icon display before. As in your case it seems to eventually clear itself.

Well, it looks like this may be starting to be a problem. VWS locked up again, so I restarted, and the clear icons are back. Should I reinstall or not?

Before you do that, check and make sure your METARs are updating. This is another issue I've had with VWS. On occasion, certain METARs will stop updating and the only way I can get them to start again is to delete them, restart VWS and then readd them. It doesn't happen on all the METARs but when it does it's always the same ones for me.

Yes, my metars are updating, that hasn't been a problem at all, just the icons stay at "clear".

As I said on the other forum. I don't think the has anything to do with vws at all. But infact where the metar information it's self is coming from. If you are using Ham Weather you need to contact Joe at weather for you. There probably a problem on one of the servers.

In my case with the METAR, I'm pulling from NOAA and I know this is a VWS problem. It only happens on two specific METARs, KFMY, and KSRQ. All others (about 5) that I'm pulling work just fine all the time. It doesn't matter where those two fall in the order either. Monitoring it with a protocol analyzer I can see that VWS doesn't even attempt to pull the data for the METAR. However, when it's done pulling all the other METARs it writes a blank METAR file for the two I have an issue with. If I delete the METAR, then add it back in, and restart VWS, it starts working properly for a few days before it starts doing it again.

Same here Larry, I'm about ready to yank them from my site since they are so inconsistent.  Confused

Larry,

If you've got proof of VWS not pulling those METARs, IMHO you should send Ed an email showing the analysis you've done.

I hear what you're saying but I gave up a long time ago trying to get Ed to fix anything for me. I know that others have good success with Ed responding to their problems, but I must be on the sh*tlist because I don't have that positive experience. If that's the case it doesn't anger me, heck, I understand. I've been critical (though I believe my critique to be fair) of VWS in the past as I am now. I'm one of those "problem" customers.  Wink

Honestly, at this point it doesn't really matter too much to me. I use VWS for very little these days and I'm hoping to be completely weaned of it by year end. That plus the lack of response I've historically had from Ambient and the current demands on my time make me less than inclined to go back and do the work of putting all the data together again. I might still have the raw traces sitting around somewhere but I'd rather put my time towards something more productive like figuring out why the sticker script isn't stripping CR/LF like it's supposed to.

And I hear you too! It's sad when a company or support organization stops listening to their customers. That typically is an alarm that that company or organization isn't going to be around much longer because they forget it's the customer that keeps them in business...

I jumped ship over a year ago now (would've been 1 more year if had've stuck to my guns then).

Never been happier since I finally bit the bullet and moved.... it's the hard stuff at the start of the changeover that makes you wonder, but once you get beyond that you're right. Smile
