Don't knock what you haven't tried!

Hi all,

I'm a little confused about which version is which and why?

I've downloaded the Demo version (WMR200) from the Ambient web site found here http://www.ambientweather.com/do30tr.html and when installed the version is 14.00 p73.

I downloaded the demo from beta wiki site http://ambientweather.wikispaces.com/Beta+Version+Instructions and its the same version after install.

If V14.00 p73 is the Beta version then I would have expected the version on Ambient would be the latest "stable" version.

I believe that p54 is the latest stable version.  If I was letting people try my product before they bought it I would probably give them a tested product and not a beta edition.

(I am using p 42.  I just have not gotten around to updating to 54.)

Thanks for the reply and I would agree, the version victory shows p54 as the latest version but it’s not the downloaded version from Ambient. I'm assuming that p73 is the available version for the WMR200 as there are a number of fixes from p54.

I would also make that assumption.  Ed has been known in the past to put the beta version up ahead of time if there were some particularly troublesome issue on older versions for a model.

You can always send him an email or call him at the support email or phone number posted on the Ambient website if you have questions about something like that.  He's always been real good at getting back to me with a reply in short order when I've done that in the past.

As an WMR200 user, I would thoroughly recommend any other WMR200 users update to at least P72. That version fixed an issue with file corruption that was happening (at least for me) two or three times per week. Not uncommon to get max/min times marked as occurring at 8.217am (no...that's not a typo).

Thanks Peter for that info. I have a 200 and still running P33.   d'oh!

Hoping I'm not too late Alan...but to upgrade over that much, you'll pass through P53 which is a "Major Update". After the restart, you'll need to re-enter some configuration settings. Apart from communication rates you'll need to re-enter some Wunderground settings (WMO codes I think it was).

No, not too late. I shall leave it until I have to restart my computer after my next Windows update, thanks for the info. Out of interest, is P53 much improved on earlier versions of VWS? I probably wouldn't have bothered upgrading from 13, but as you know the WMR 200 wasn't supported on earlier versions.

You can set the Baud rate for communication...but I don't see that making any difference. The main change is my data corruption has dropped from two or three times a week till almost nothing. Happened twice in the last three weeks and it was just a rain spike. All other data remained fine. Ed seems to have sorted the problems with strange "bin" files appearing....like 2002_56_48.bin.
