Fall/Winter '18/'19

Fall = S O N
Winter - D J F

Feeling Fall-ish this morning and September is only a week away now, believe it or not.  Won't be long before we're griping about cold and snow instead of heat and rain.

 It's still in the mid/upper 90s everyday over here in CenCal. Fall seems very distant.

Here in Montreal, Canada, we had one of our warmest, driest summers in recent memory. The month has changed, the leaves are turning already, but it remains warm and muggy. Not a problem for me, last winter was almost 6 months long here, I'll take all the summer I can get!

We had no prolonged soaking multi-day rains during April-May-June this year, which was unusual.  Mother nature had other ideas, though.  She scored a 2-0 lightning-related safety when the NU-Akron football game was delayed just after the kickoff.  The score held up when after 3 1/2 hours of continued nearby lightning the game was cancelled, an unheard of outcome in Cornhusker football history!

We are currently looking at a multi-day soaking rain in September, something also almost unheard of in these parts.

Here is my Sept 2-6 WxSim forecast:

So far there has been minimal flooding...

A look at how Stillwater missed most of Wednesday evening's downpour, sparing it from another big flash flood.  A heavy thunderstorm popped up just to the south and southeast of Stillwater and hardly moved, while raining itself out.  The flash flood that didn't happen would have been extra bad, since the ground is already soaked from rain in the past several days.

Meanwhile, a couple of counties away to the southwest in the Edmond/Oklahoma City areas, the same thing happened.  Here's how it looked in Oklahoma City. Chances for more rain remain in the forecast until Sunday.

Finally,  a rainy week is up, and the clouds finally split Sunday afternoon for some missed sunshine.  Here's a look at 7 day rain amounts in Oklahoma.  My station got 2.90".  Some stations got a lot more, such as the one just to the south of me, which got 5.12".   10 day forecast not showing a return of the 90s. Much of Oklahoma is now drought free, including my area.

Grass is still brown though.

Grass never made it to brown here this summer and now is brighter green and needing mowed more than ever.

If things keep on as they are and as forecast, September will be more above normal than both July and August.

So, the switch was flipped to Summer Heat the first of May and finally seems to have been flipped off again with forecast highs in the upper 60s showing.

Thoughts on Winter?  I like mild weather, no extremes either way, but I very rarely get what I want.

With the temperature at 43 this morning, I can believe in fall coming.

Our NWS put this out yesterday. Map shows O N D and gives a little summary of the El Nino watch.

Two graphics on the site below. Select the "Long Range Outlook" on the right:

In the 'we're never happy' category ....  we've been dry, really dry.  We need rain real bad.  But now it's raining and might do so on and off for a few days.  Now I'm annoyed I can't get things done outside so I'm out doing some of it in the rain.  Can't it just rain overnight and not during the daytime??

On the other hand, TV weatherman Mike Morgan said he thinks Thursday was the last day for highs in the 90s in Oklahoma City for the rest of the year.
