A Sunny/Foggy Morning
« on: March 06, 2018, 01:29:09 PM »
I have found that using my drone to explore is a remarkable tool.  This morning it was a beautiful sunny morning, so I thought I would see what was out there....  Much to my surprise, on the other side of the peninsula we live on, it was socked in with fog.  This is Hood Canal.  The sunny side is Puget Sound which goes down to Seattle an beyond to the right.  To the North is Admiralty Inlet that goes into the Straits of Juan de Fuca, which goes into the Pacific Ocean....  It made for some incredible photography.  I have several still images, but they are too large to post here without spending a fair amount of time reducing them.  But, the video is awesome.  At 2 minutes, it's a bit long , but I just couldn't cut anything out of it....

Thought I'd Share,

Greg,

WOW, that was beautiful.  =D>

How about a drone video that looks back at where your cameras are located so we can get a better idea of the area surrounding your home? Also, what drone do you have? The video appears to be very high quality and rock-solid stable.

Hi Don,
Thanks for the kind words.  As far as a video looking back at my home, I have been very intentional about leaving my neighbors homes out the videos.  One of the biggest complaints about drones is the invasion of privacy.  Although....  When I get brave enough to fly it out far enough over the water....  Maybe I'll take a shot and share it.  My biggest goal at this point is to keep it from falling out of the sky and occasionally even point the camera in the right direction....

I just heard from the ABC affiliate in Seattle and they did a blog around the images and video and used it as a Fog 101 lesson.....  Here is the link:

And one more....  I screwed up a portion of the video trying to use the zoom...  After some post editing I was able to make it watchable....  So here is kind of an interesting short video (watch full screen if you can):

One of the leading bloggers in the PNW brought up some good thoughts in his blog this morning....  "Weather Drones"....  What would that look like?  How can we leverage some new technologies to access this information.  Wouldn't it be nice to know the exact temperature at 400ft. above your home along with wind speed, etc....  It has my curiosity peaked...  He also used my content in his blog....
