Can you please give more a more detailed description of what is or is not happening?  What version of
VWS are you using?   In a message to me you said it was working but not it is not.  What has recently
changed?

Hi guys...Let me clarify....
My version is v14.00 p 61 --
Everything used to work perfectly,, used to be able to connect to the server. My webpage used to  update and work properly.. Now vws is not sending files to server. I am getting an error message: cannot connect to the server.  So, I checked and re-checked the info I entered in the fields--- the server name, the username, and the password. All is correct..I even checked to see if maybe my firewall and security systems were blocking VWS. They are not.. All is cool.. .. They are all allowing vws to operate.

I also called go daddy to see if they detect any problems on their end. They verified all should be working properly ...
So here I am....

Two things I have noticed:
1- When I login to the ftp log in screen no listing appears under the directory .. Is this normal??

2- The only thing that updates and works properly is rapid fire

Guys, please help.. if you need further info let me know

Here is the url to my webpage.... www.glennsweatherpage.com

Much appreciated,

Glenn

I used VWS FTP without incident for 3 years.  However I recently switched to Fling... not really because I had issues with VWS though.  In my years of use, I only ever used the scheduled ftp, I never actually manually logged in with VWS or checked for a directory listing.   Aside from a socket error or two it worked pretty good.  sloooow, but good.

That was one of my reasons for switching to an alternative.   I was uploading so much, the updates began to overlap.  Especially on the hour or half hour when the JPG's went up.   I also started using the ajax flash stuff.  So my two wflash files had to be uploaded every minute or so...   goddaddy only allows two ftp users at a time, so they were overlapping, and causing "cant connects"

So I simply point Fling at the directory with all the files VWS creates, that I need on my website and voila...  I now have a VWS core files fling directory, a flash directory, and a lightning directory...  Works like a charm.  And now VWS can focus on it core duties of keeping track of my data, wu/wfu uploads, metar downloads, and creating various parts of my webpages, etc... no more ftp at all.

Glenn,

First, make sure that you have passive mode set on in the FTP settings.

Secondly, that sounds exactly like the issues I was having but they were fixed when I went to
14.0 but you are obviously there already.    Can you think of *anything* that has changed?

Do you know how to do an FTP from DOS?  If so, that would be something good to try.
That way you could determine if it was the VWS software or something on your PC.

Weather flash works great.  I dont want to mess with to many settings till someone tells me what to look for. I am set to passive, and VWS is sending the info but not updating my site. I am using my IP provided space. I also have VWS v14.00 P40

Thanks Bryan

Must be a Florida thing.  I can tell you after several PM's and a whole lot of emails flweatherman1 is back online.

When did this happen?  I see your index.htm has a time stamp of 9:05am, your wx.htm, detail.htm has a 12:32pm time stamp.  Assume same for daily.htm since last record is 12:30pm.

What does you internet log file say?

Andrew

My old web address is here web.tampabay.rr.com the new is http://home.roadrunner.com/~bsweather/  I dont know what I did but it did update it at 2:05pm and that was the last update. It is sending the data but not updating the web site.

Where do I find the internet log file at?

Thanks Bryan

Help - Internet Status and Log  (page 89 of April 07 VWS manual... at work so that's all I have access to)

click the little file open icon to see log...
Assuming the check box is there, you should be able to see upload attempts, etc.

You know it worked once (at 2:05), so either your schedule got fubar'd or their might be issues with your new host.

Bryan,
Your site is still stale. Let us know about the passive thing.

If that does not work, since the only change was your host, I would start with that.
Download a free standalone ftp program, or something like fling (actually NCH which makes fling also has a standalonde FTP called Classic FTP which is also free).  give that a try.  While I use Fling for all my uploads, a basic ftp is good to as you can see what got uploaded, do deletes etc on the host system.

If you get similar errors, then you know its the host.  and you can give them a call.   VWS is not a robust ftp, but it works for most.   I left my ISP free no-ad host due to socket errors, etc, went to tripod, then finally a godaddy hosted site.   I only ever has VWS problems with the first one.

What is your "scheduled" upload time.   You can click the upload files button on the HTML settings page, then Upload on the next page that opens... to test.

and I hit the update button and nothing updated.  I also run the website builder again with no luck. I dont think its my provider as I have been with them for a couple of years and never had any problems. I also down loaded the classic FTP but I dont know how to operate it.

Well you could look at your VWS logs again and see what the error is after you changed to passive, or you could just go out now and get Fling, set it to upload on change to your htm/jpg directory, and go from there.

Once you get Fling up and running, make sure to turn off your ftp scheduling in VWS so you dont run into to too many ftp users with your ISP or host....

I have Fling installed on my comp. what do I need to setup to get it to load. If you have step by step that would be great.

its is pretty easy.

Simply go to the folder that your htm and jpgs are in c:\program files\vws\root (in many cases)
right click - select fling upload....

after that I think it asks you questions about your server name, user name and password.
They you choose an update frequency.  Either manual, scan for changes, or time interval.

this pages has screen caps of each screen.
http://www.nchsoftware.com/fling/screenshots.html

This is the most important one

ftp server, same one you have in VWS...
username
Directory (probably leave blank for your needs)

Click test

Confirm that the Local Base folder is the correct one.

I see you are still at 11am yesterday, trouble with Fling or just busy with something else?
