In severe weather events, Oklahomans are now used to seeing storms cycle and build live on television via cameras in helicopters or on the dashboard’s of storm spotter vehicles.

The University of Oklahoma, AT&T and The Weather Channel have taken this idea and supercharged it, installing live cameras on research vehicles and instruments that will, eventually, send radar data back in near-real time. The collaboration was announced Friday at a press conference inside the National Weather Center in Norman, mere hours after a severe storm had just passed through.
