NON-BETA  14.00 P64 Feb 11 2009  http://www.ambientweather.com/do30tr.html   NON-BETA FIXED Problems with 5 Day Forecast, can now only have 3 cities.

BETA http://site.ambientweatherstore.com/vws/beta/vws_install.exe
VWS 14.00 P65 Feb 12 2009 Fixed Problems with 5 Day Forecast

P62 - P64. On some computers, the Wunderground | 5-Day Forecast panel would crash. I never figured out why but changing the number of cities from 4 to 3 eliminated the problem. The panel must be too complex to load on some computers. I hope this limitation in functionality will not hurt too many people.
More changes to the WMR200 download archive transition state. The difficulty arises because this station sends download data and real time data at the same time and there is no flag sent by the WMR200 that tells us when the download is complete, so I used to base this on timing between the first real time record equalling the last archive record time, but due to USB buffering, the first real time record could represent old data and therefore the download record was incomplete (it would assume there were no more archive records). I fixed this by setting a 20 second timeout for the archive records. The assumption is after 20 seconds, if there are no more archive records, the software makes the assumption that there are no more records left since they usually come in 1-3 second bursts.

P65. Some users are complaining that the rate of change and intergration features are not working properly. It may be an issue with clocking on the computer (which is speculation at the moment). To view the one second clocking, select Help | Internet Status from the menubar. At the bottom of the panel is a one second timer update. It should be close to one second.

As with version 14.xx Pxx and above the CPU and Kernel times under Task Manager run at 50% to 70% all the time even though I set VWS to Low. This PC is a 100% Weather Computer running a Dell OptiPlex 330, 2GB Memory, 3.00 GHz Duo CPU E8400 Running Windows XP Pro Sp3.

Install Notes:
1. Turn OFF any Virus software before you start this process.
2. Exit VWS Software.
3. Copy your VWS Folder to a backup location.
4. Delete the folder C:\Program Files\VWS Installer
5. Copy the Install file to your VWS Directory, C:\VWS or D:\VWS I would install only on the C: Drive
I rename the Install file to VWS14xxPxx.exe so I know what Patch level I last Installed and Have a backup of the Last Patch.
6. Install VWS Software from this location. C:\VWS or D:\VWS
7. Defrag *Windows your hard drives
8. REBOOT your PC (Flush your memory) The Computer's Memory!
9. After VWS starts up let it update, so wait for the upload/download to stop.
10. Update any item the VWS prompts you to update or change. Not all updates will prompt you.
11. Touch each menu object and check that the data or item is correct.

Just installed P53 No problem install went well and the Weatherlink PClink Automation for the Noaa reports now works again after years of not working, even tho I don't have to use that option anymore and now use WeatherLink 5.8.2 to generate the reports. Only thing that I had to redo was the communication Panel which I had to choose what kind of weather station I was running and pick the com port and change the communication rate back to 1.0 sec.
Now I had already done the P52 update so some of the information that you may have to enter I didn't because it was already updated.. I believe I had to replace some info in the Station Settings Sun Moon and Altitude corrections Panel. You may want to look at the Vantage Pro/WeatherLink Settings Panel and make sure everything look ok in there with the Sea Level Barometer Correction

The biggest help I have found for the WMR 968 and it wasn't actually specifically for the station was the improvements to the FTP engine.
It really helped my uploads ( knock on wood )  But you never really had any upload troubles with the older versions did you?

The reboot on critical error is a real help!  Sounds like Ed has been pulling some long hours churning out all these betas lately!

Thanks ED!!!

A small warning to anyone using an OS WMR200 and updating to P53 and beyond. Besides the settings already mentioned that need to be re-entered, I also had to re-enter the WMO codes under the Wunderground menu.

I am still running V13.01 and gave on up on the VWS FTP stuff.  I use Fling as my ftp and it is free.

I have NEVER had the FTP problems that others have reported in the past. I tried Fling and that actually caused problems and there were some unique setups I have the Fling couldn't handle, so I went back to using the VWS Ftp engine. I have upgraded to the latest version of VWS and have no problems.

Can others confirm that the FTP engine has been improved/debugged? I really like some of the VWS graphics, but was never able to get FTP working reliably. After bitching about this problem on the old forum & getting nothing in reply but "it's *YOUR* problem" I am chuckling a little now! I guess there might have been an issue after all huh?

I have just read the specification on the new version of 14.00p54 and note the following:-

Item 3

Allows you to use channel 1 and the outdoor sensor (and visa-versa) on the VantagePro and VantagePro2 models.

If only we could do the same with the OS WMR-200 and 200A.

Until that is possible I shall stick with p33, at least I know that works.

I just did the upgrade and after reading the notes, knew I had to update the communication settings. I then found that my USA.htm was not updating some of the items on my page related to the 5 day forcast and icons. I went to the forcast under Wunderground on the menu bar and found it appeared to be a bit corrupted. The first item is what used to be my second item. the number that would be in front of the second item is e5 rather then 2 and there are now olny 3 options where I used to have 4. I upgraded from 14p47.

Anyone else experience this? Perhaps I should try to reinstall...

An improvement to the ftp would be a benefit to everyone. Regardless to what station you had. While I will admit I do have a few ftp errors. I just can't see downloading any of the new version(s). Expecially since it seems that may have introduced some new problems.

I gave up on VWS ftp and switched to Fling several versions ago V13P? because of errors and upload time.  When the ftp function worked it would take 2 minutes to upload.  Fling takes 30 seconds.  Does the latest version of VWS upload faster?

If speed is the issue, you can try lowering the value for "time delay between transfers".  Mine is currently set to 0.5 and seems to work fine.
