Hello All:

I replaced my old computer that runs my weather stuff last summer.  The system seemed to be running well; however, last week my sound card (on the motherboard) died.  Sad  Well the vendor added another sound card under warranty, which was terribly cheap and didn't work well.   So, I took matters into my own hands.  I added ANOTHER sound card.  Well the second sound card (third one if you count the one on the motherboard) is working fine except that whenever you open the WU stream, ie:

http://www.eetee.us/station/radio.php

or,

http://audioplayer.wunderground.com/ericisback/Louisville.mp3.m3u

the streaming software (Oddcast) crashes?!?  It seems OK if the stream is played from another computer; however, if the computer that is running Oddcast plays the stream through a browser, it crashes?!?  WEIRD!   Does anyone have any idea why this might happen?  I guess I can live with it (don't really need to listen to my own NOAA stream I guess).  But if It would be nice if I could fix it.

Also,  I was hoping I could get a few people to listen to the stream to make sure it sounded OK, and it was stable.  Thanks for any help!!!

Checked your stream and it sounds nice and clear on this end.

Try one or more of the following:
1) Make sure your new sound card is in the drop-down list in Oddcast (now known as Edcast).  I'd also remove the crappy sound card from your system if you haven't already.
2) Try deleting the encoder and recreating it.
3) Uninstall Oddcast and install Edcast.

If I remove the crappy sound card, do I need to uninstall the drivers as well?

I'd just leave the drivers installed.

Kevin,

If oddcast is working fine, is there any advantage to installing this new software? I didn't even know it changed.  Embarassed

It's the same program with a couple of bug fixes and a different skin.  My guess is the name changed because the name was already being used by a different company, based on this statement on the oddsock.org web site:
Quote
Edcast (previously known as oddcast - which has no affiliation or relation to the software "Oddcast" made by "Oddcast Inc." which is available here) is a broadcasting application targetted to the small station owner.

I'm still using Oddcast too.  If it already works, why fix it?  Shocked

I thought about upgrading from oddcast out of curiosity when I noticed the new version poking around WU a week or two ago.  But the version I have is rock solid reliable and I think it was a modified version that used less cpu which on a 466 certainly is a good thing.  Guess I'll just leave well enough alone.

Works for me, thanks.

It's working great with oddcast now, so I'm not touching a thing.  Wink

One other thing. Make sure the motherboard sound card is disabled in BIOS.

I'll see if I can figure out how to do that.
