My WMR 969 rain collector has failed me looks like.
Anybody know of a good way other than substitution of a known good ( which I don't have on hand)
to isolate whether the transmitter of sensor is at fault??

I know I need to upgrade but now is a bad time...if there actually is ever a good one Smile

Thanks!

Try swapping the transmitter portions with your temp sensor transmitter, they are the same I believe.  If the suspect transmitter works for the temp then of course it is your rain collector that is at fault, if not it's the transmitter at fault.  Hooking up your "good" transmitter from your original temp sensor combo to the rain collector will then verify your results.

thought about the sub that way but it's mounted in a place that's better accessed during non rainy time..so that
will get it turn I suppose in a few days.. I would love to find an actual schematic of the sensor to transmitter wiring that way
I could default the transmitter into an operational state...maybe I could at least see it on the SA..in case the led is at at fault ( which i doubt)

When it rains it pours..but you'd never tell it by my data   Smile

I found a schematic recently.  I think I posted it. I will try to find, but I cant recall if ti was at the old forum.  I took mine apart in the summer.  My wife nicked it with the whipper snipper.  I had a light on, but it was sporadic or on full.   Turns out two wires of the 6 or 8 were cut.  I re-wired and all was well.

Even though it says wx200/wm918 its the same box as the wmr968.

I even made a copy on PDF in case this site ever goes away.

Thanks for that link, I also "copied" the webpages as well.  I also copied all of the sensor related pages that he had on his site.   As again, they appear to be similiar to what the WMR968 have.

Here is the main page: http://www.qsl.net/zl1vfo/wx200/wx_index.htm

Now if we could only find a schematic of the transmitters for the WMR968 sensors.

Thanks a bunch Andrew!!

I have been fooling with this thing on and off the last few days and have isolated the fault to the sensor card in the tipping bucket. Our outside temps are in the 50's and the inside is in the upper 70's...got carried away with the stove  Smile

Anyway it will transmit fine as long as it's inside  but within an hour or less it gives up after being moved outside. I can connect another bucket and it will do the same..evidently they both may have the same problem... I have re heated about every connection on one of these buckets and will switch it in a few minutes when it croaks!!  Maybe I'll get lucky!!  Well it croaked while typing!! Has been switched so now we wait and see LOL!

Thanks again for the info!!!

Looks like according to the print the rain gauge is relatively simple but on the sensor board there are several more SMD components.. I still haven't licked the problem with mine though.. I have soldered every join on the board and still being outside for a hour or two kills the tx function..just sits there no flash LOL!

I'm still not sure what the actual problem is but I found by installing a heater and using a form of PWM control I am able to keep the sensor temp around 50 degrees which seems to keep it up. The problem area is the potted section on the sensor board which I assume is the microprocessor for the memory of accumulated rainfall during transmit cycles..

My replacement finally arrived today..UPS sorta ,kinda.... lost it but then again they found it Smile

Never hurts to have a spare Smile
