I've just been looking at some CWOP/APRS data and noticed that while my station was reporting a temperature below 0 degrees F, it appears that invalid temp data was being sent to CWOP/APRS. Other data such as barometer, etc was passed fine. I've looked at the CWOP/APRS weather data files for the temp shown during the times it was actually below zero and all show as zeros. When I look at the raw data, it looks pretty strange with the temp data element showing something like "t--003";

Has anyone else noticed this? I don't know if it's a VPLive problem or what it could be.

Here's a sample of the raw data stream that was uploaded to CWOP/APRS. I've included mine as well as that from another Ham (N7NNV) who also had below zero readings in his stream.

This data stream is bad (errors marked in RED):

This data stream is good (good field marked in GREEN):

Note that the bad data field has two dashes rather than a single dash in the temperature field. Based on these raw APRS data feeds, I now believe this is a VPLive problem.

Same for me (using VPLIVE 1.6).  APRS/CWOP validator throws out the double minus sign reports and the temp/dewpoint graph ends when temp goes sub-zero Crying or Very sad    Have reported this bug via separate e-mail to Steve.

I should have a fix for this soon (today or tomorrow). I'll post a new thread announcing it when it's ready.

Thanks Steve. Only made it down to +1.7 last night so didn't affect anything.

If someone is seeing below zero temps, could you download and try this version:

http://temp.softwx.com/vplive.exe

just put the exe in your VPLive folder (it's not the full install). I'd like someone seeing below zero to give this the thumbs up before I make an official release.

Or, if someone has a separate remote temp sensor they could place it in their freezer...  Laughing

It has risen to +2F here now but it should be well below zero overnight.  I have the prposed update installed and will post info/status after our temp drops below zero this evening. Thanks.

Can't verify temp handling until it drops sub-zero but I did notice that the proposed update is not sending 24 hr precip (see insert below).  The VPLive display on my PC indicates the correct 24 hour precip but it isn't making it into the APRS upload.

OK, looks like the proposed VPLive update works for the negative temps Very Happy  I manually set my console calibration until it read -2F.  The APRS upload showed the proper entry.  Also, the 24 hr precip did start appearing after the first two uploads (never noticed that before but may have always been that way).

If VPLive can't read the history from a WeatherLink generated WLK file to initialize its rain accumulator, then it won't start sending the 24 hour rain until is has collected 24 hours of data on its own. The console does not provide that data item directly (only rain since midnight).

I plan on initializing the rain data by reading the history directly from the console in the future so this won't be an issue. This is a holdover from VPLive's origins.

Steve,

Looks like we may get close to or below 0 tonight so have downloaded and installed VPLive 1.1.7.2 to see what happens. All looks good so far but it's only down to 10.9 so far... If it goes below 0 overnight, I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks for the quick response to this issue!
