The new aiweather.txt code fixed it.  Showing "Overcast" now just as it should.   Wink

t'anks for letting me know.

I hope more than you and I use it.... it'd be nice to know others find it useful... it's been fun playing with it ...
Got a list of things to do and will work on in my spare time... (Perhaps TMI: but I go in for back surgery the 24th so I'll have a lot of "spare time" as I recover)

Josh,

The newest version looks great.  I haven't found where to put the rounding entry.  I still want the barometer to read to the hundredths.  Otherwise, it looks great!

Build it and they will come.   Wink

Good luck with your surgery.  Nasty way to have to spend the holidays.  I know first hand how painful back problems can be.

HA!  So far, 2 have... but then again; I haven't done a lot of pushing on it -- want to get it fairly solid before a mention it in other forums...

Regarding surgery: thanks -- but I've been in pain for 3 years; spending the holiday with friends (who are flying in on the 24 & 26th) to lend a hand seems the best way to spend it... Friends helping Friends.

Thanks jay!  If you put in
[misc]
rounding=2

what happens?   I won't have a chance to double check it until this afternoon....
I also noticed that it always thinks it's "night time" so i will be working on a version today...

Posted new version.  v 1.0.2.6 http://AIWeather.com/files/AITrayWeather.zip

Rounding to two places works; you must edit the aiweather.ini file and add:
Code:
[misc]
Rounding=2
That says to round to 2 decimal places, to disable rounding, use -2
The default is -1 which basically just trims the 0's off so 10.01 would stay 10.01 but 10.10 would go to 10.1

I made a lot of changes since I 1st announced it -- mostly internal changes; but added new features too.
  • Can use day & night icons, providing you can tell aiweather when surise & sunset is. (Weatherflash files have this info)
  • Includes facility to you have your own "help" file on the tray menu
  • Improved speed of overall processing
  • Added support for 'unknown' data files (I only know about WF & VWS; and that's rather limiting...)
  • Includes the ability clean up time fields (19:43:20 into 7:43pm)
  • Can optionally beep on data update
  • Some bug fixes
  • ...and more

The default ini file is for mywebiste, and shows you how I'm testing it here.  The list of required files has grown so if you want to redistribute to your visitors, pre configured, you would need, at a minimum:

AIWeather.exe
Config files: .\config\AIWeather.ini .\config\AIWeather.txt
icon files: .\icons\*, .\icons\night\*

If you're using my AIWeather.txt file you would need to configure your Weatherflash and VWS Data files, and also include:
Config files: .\config\conversion.txt .\config\vws19.txt

If you write your own .chm help file; include that with in the same dir as the aiweather.exe and you'll get a "Help" menu item appear.  You can then give your users more information about yourself, your site, weather terms/facts, etc.

Enjoy! and as always; please let me know any problems and suggestions.

Josh,

I also got the new version running.  But I can't get the help file to work.  When I open the .chm file it just shows Internet Explorer page not found pages on the right side.  The program is also showing daytime icons during nighttime.  I am using the weatherflash files.  I also notice that the tool tip box always shows up over the icon in the system tray.  It is then very difficult to right click on the icon to get the menu.

Thanks,  Jay

Help file is working OK for me both clicking on it in the menu and directly on the folder.  I did notice it was showing daytime up until around 9:00pm (already had been dark for several hours but figured that was being dictated by the WF file).  One way I found of getting to the menu when the icon was covered was to click on the task bar while the tool tip was open.  This brings the task bar on top of the tool tip temporarily.

One thing I have noticed while making this post is the tool tip came up and has been following my mouse around for several minutes now.  I'm just going to let it run out of curiosity to see how long it stays up.  It only stayed up for a few hops before but acts like it might stay perminently this time until the program is shutdown.

It did eventually time out.  It was on screen for several more minutes but after I went upstairs for a bit and came back it was gone.  The monitor was in standby so I'm not sure exactly how long it stayed up.

Here is what I get when I open Help.  Not sure why this is happening.  Almost the same thing on every topic.

This is a great idea!
Does this program require your website to operate with PHP?  Or can it pull straight from text files?

I know the purpose of this is to provide something extra to your visitors by them having real-time access to key data sets on your website, but what will happen to your site visits?  Will the number decrease?

Please grab the latest... I believe I have finally fixed night/daytime issue.
I have seen that 'following' action a few times; but can't replicate it well enough to track it down... Trust me; that's #1 on my list of known issues here...

Jay: Any chance you are running the program from a network drive?  CHM's will not work across a network drive. It's a known limitation of chm's (and MS has said they will not fix it....)

It doesn't require anything on the website side...  just that the data files exist.
You can use local (or network) data files if you want.

I know the purpose of this is to provide something extra to your visitors by them having real-time access to key data sets on your website, but what will happen to your site visits?  Will the number decrease?

Well; that's a good question; one I can't answer... My goal is to make the weather from my station easier to access.  Going on that theory of website visits; my site sucks... it's not pretty; I'm not a web developer/designer -- why would anyone go there when weather.com or professional sites are much more pleasing?   (that's a rhetorical question...)

My hunch is that, if anything, it will improve site visits by having it always there, and people will be enticed to "learn more" about the weather

Additionally, you could have a very small tool tip

Code:
Current temp is <vws1:14><asc:176>
Double click tray icon to learn more.

such that "ooh, it's cold, I wonder if it's raining?"

I know i get requests for "weatherbug" type weather; (tray icon) I'm one step away from my goal; which is to overlay the temp on the icon...

Interesting.  it's just a standard chm help file.  the only time I've seen what you're experiencing is when it's on a network drive...  but if it's the local/boot drive; i'm stumped.  Contact me off the forums if you want to do a remote session to debug it; or if you figure it out -- please let me know.  I have a test lab here with various OS's --- what OS are you using?  I can test specifically on that; extracting the zip file to my desktop...

It switched from daytime to nighttime with the new version so that was a good sign since it was 3 hours after sunset.   Wink
