WMR100 Wind Speed Calibration
«
on:

Just looking out the window and noticed the pine trees, some 3 stories high, were bending over pretty good. Looked at my wind speed and saw 7-15 mph, Beaufort scale of Gentle Breeze. Wouldn't a Strong Breeze, 25-30 mph, or Near Gale, 31-38 mph, be the right correlation?
Does anyone know what the right gain setting should be for a WMR100?

Are those trees between your station and the direction of the wind? If they are then they could be forming a shelter-belt and not allowing you to get a true reading.

They could be. I think I can still use the gain to adjust for that. Also, all the trees are moving like that, and it feels very windy up on the roof where the station is located.

Instead of setting the gain to 1.00. Try using a gain of 1.25. That should atleast help some.

I too have a WMR-100, and I have just had a thought. Is the small screw that holds the spinning cups to the spindle secured properly?
Mine weren't when I installed it first, and I had no reading at all.

I put in a gain of 2 yesterday. The wind speeds ended up matching other personal weather stations, and to me the Beaufort Wind Scale. But my max wind gust of ~35mph was still less than the airport's 55mph. Still, I think the match to Beaufort is more locally important.
