Dimitris,  there is one thing I don't understand.....  on the battery side of the pcb we put in a 47uf directional capacitor and one the other side is where we attach the 470nf capacitor.  At the same location right?  Is this right?

Yes Skott is right. And i see in your photo the polarity electrolytic capacitor is correct.
All it show correct from photo,i do not know what happen and it do not work.
Stay cool and check again for short circuits, bad soldering irons, the situation batteries where you use,you are sure cut the copper line correct down diode 1N4148 (check it with continuity tester).

If all is ok from you,put out all the electronic components modification ,fix the PCB like before modification and look if work correct.

Hi Dan,
Yes I know from the Wikihow article the 239.jpg picture is wrong with the placement of that one capacitor.  I found this out myself reviewing the original picture vs. the Wikihow step by step instructions.  I used the step by step instructions, and when it did not work, I caught the mistake by reviewing the orig picture.  I've ordered another temp/humidy unit.  I think I might see if I can get the other one (the modified one) back to orig. specs and see if it is dead.

Bad news:  removed all parts, undid the jumper on one side, removed the diode on the battery side, made a good connection, tested for continuity---good, inserted batteries, inserted batteries on display unit.....nothing dead.
Don't worry fellas......another unit on it's away.......I've learned a lesson here to check and check other people's work before using it........ Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

Hi Scott, just thought I'd ask if you verified the diodes still have their front-to-back ratio's with the multimeter in diode mode. Somewhere around 600 or 700 ohms should show in one direction and infinite in the other if they are working right and not shorted or open.

Hi Dan,

On the temp/hydro unit that I changed back to original specs the diode is good at .552 v in the proper direction. The diode is neither open nor short.

New temp/hydro unit is up and running.

Hi Dan & Dimitris,

Well, good news.....  I modified the Temp/Hydro sensor successfully!!!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy  I am now getting data every 8 seconds like as if I am connected with a wire!!!!   This is so much better, as my wind readings make a whole lot of better sense now!!!!!!  I am reporting wind averages on WU.

To ALL that read this post; please be aware that there is a mistake on step 14 of the Wikihow article for the placement of the 100 nf capacitors.
