Davis Vantage Pro2 Forcast

I Was Wondering If anyone knows how to get the forcast from the david vantage pro consone to VWS or my website. I See Some People have found a way to do that. Thanks for your help.

Speaking of these messages, has anybody noticed these messages are often wrong, or grossly late?  It seems to be like asking a magic 8-ball questions!  My temperature went from 37 to 59 in a three hour period this morning, and it says "little temperature change".  What does it consider a lot of temperature change, molten lava falling down?

You need to understand that the Davis forecasting algorithms are based on readings and trends from a single point of reference, wherever the station is mounted. It has no other data from which to draw; no other stations, no forecast models, nothing.

The forecasts seem to include some implementation of the Zambretti Weather Forcaster. There was a discussion of this on the Midlands UK weather forum here.

Midlands member Beteljuice implemented the Zambretti Forecaster in Javascript, and you can try it here with your own local data.

The Zambretti algorithm doesn't require barometric trend, while the Davis console will tell you on power up that it needs 3 hours of data to make a forecast. That tells me that the Davis implementation is a little more sophisticated than the original Zambretti.

This is also why, unless something like a front is expected to move through, a long term forecast (5-10 day) by the "big guys" (NWS, etc.) will often simply give the normal conditions expected for the current season (which, if you think about it, makes complete sense). Keep an eye on your 5-10 day NWS forecasts and you'll see what I mean. I'm not saying 5-10 forecasts turn out to be correct, but they are safe bets when fronts aren't expected.

But as SLO said, the Davis station doesn't give an hourly forecast; it doesn't even attempt to forecast highs and lows. Nevertheless, it is surpisingly accurate at forecasting weather changes associated with fronts.

What really amazes me is how accurate the professional forecasts can be. It's especially interesting in the winter when the NWS forecasts a winter storm over the Great Lakes by saying that a low will develop SE of the Rockies and intensify as it moves NE, and you look at the surface map and see nothing there or even west of there that looks like a low. But they're looking at the bigger picture, including convergences and divergences in the jet stream. Then sure enough, a low develops over OK and becomes a raging winter storm as it moves NE. Fascinating.

It just seems that whatever algorithms are used do not take into account all available parameters, ie, if solar radiation drops down very low around midday and stays that way for hours, I would think something should generate a message, "cloudy, increasing cloudiness".  Also, it's been raining with the rain gauge actively measuring rainfall, yet the forecast remains "rain possible within 12-24 hours" or something like that.  Only once or twice did I ever see it say "rain continuing...." while it was actually raining.  It sure would be nice to be able to have your local PWS data uploaded to a weather site that crunches this data in combination with additional data unavailable to a PWS to generate a point forecast for an individual PWS.

Thanks for posting that, Kevin! I remember posting that to the old VWS forum, and thought it was gone. I'd forgotten that I posted it to WD as well. Have to make it a sticky in the Davis are, I suppose.

I got the forecast displayed on my computer it in the Alpha Numeric panel  Then click on the Parameter Forecast, you have to make the forecast box really long so you can read the text. The Jpg is vws1020.jpg for the web site. I hope this is what you are looking for??

I am Using Virtual Weather Station V14  my websit url is http://weather.1david6.com.  I Was Wondering If anyone knows how to get the forcast from the david vantage pro consone to VWS or my website. I See Some People have found a way to do that. I think it may be done with weather link software. but when i was talking with davis instruments over the phone he sed it can't be done yet i see that people have found a way to do it.

The forecast tag in VWS is ^vst138^. Insert that tag in your htx file where you want the forecast to appear and it should work.

Keep in mind that Davis will not support anything but their products (hardware and software), and VWS is not a Davis product.

Thanks For all your Help I Did Find Out How To Get The Forcast To Work. It Is A Tag In Virtual Weather Station that was not ther when I Had My Old Weather Station.

Thank you I Did find this and was able to get it to work. Last Month I Switched over to the davis. I Had the Oregon Scientific weather station WMR968. It Worked Well Until It Was Hit By Lightning.   The Forecats tag was not listed in The VWS Program until i changed over the station. Again Thank you for all your help.
