For you GRLevel3 folks, the NorthAmericanWeather.net home for the affiliated regional weather network sites has a free placefile generated every 5 minutes with locations/conditions at member stations:

Just add the following to your GRLevel3 placefile list and set the refresh interval at 5 minutes

http://www.northamericanweather.net/members-placefile.txt

Ken

Hi Ken,

Very nice!! I am having trouble though getting GR3 to display the info. I just purchased the software and and have been experimenting with it. I copied the .txt file and added it to "Place Files" but like I mentioned; I'm not getting the info on the map. Have tried reading the GIS instructions on GR3 but having problems understanding adding "Place Files".

Do I need to change the script in GR3 or how exactly does the Program pick up and display the "Place Files"?Still a little overwhelmed with all the features of GR3.

Any tips and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Here's what I did in GR3 to add the placefile

GR3, Window, Show Placefile Manager

Press the 'Open' button (the left-most button in the Placefile Manager dialog)

Put http://www.northamericanweather.net/members-placefile.txt in the Place Filename area and press OK

Then close the Placefile Manager dialog.

GRLevel3 should do the fetch of the placefile (and refresh it every 5 minutes).

Best regards,
Ken

I saw the problem with the placefile .. I too got the 'red bar' with no error message.

I've reduced the size of the placefile by including only the US stations in it (since GR3 works only with NOAA NEXRAD) and it should be fine now.

Thanks!

Yes, the hover feature only works on the GRLevel3 program display (same with any placefile).  The images uploaded with GRLevel3 are just snapshots of the screen display.  GRLevel3 would have to emit <map> and <area> HTML to have the website display enabled with popups (but it doesn't) Sad

In GRLevel3, Windows, Show Placefile Manager...

In the dialog, right-click on the North American Weather Network .. it should show the current status of the feed and when the next update should occur.   Does it show a 5-minute interval between last update date and next update time?

Best regards,
Ken

Hi Ken,
It shows no errors. It shows the last update time and the next update time which is 5 minutes later. However when I cursor over my station and the other stations in the network it still shows the orginal data from when I downloaded the file yesterday afternoon. At the time I downloaded the file we had 65 degrees this morning after the front past we are 43 but the data showing is still the data from yesterday. This is true for all stations. What am I overlooking?

Best regards,

Bob.

Hmmm... very strange.  My GRLevel3 keeps the placefile loaded so it's current (within 5 minutes) all the time.

You do have Polling started (the File, Start polling is greyed-out)?   I can't think of another setting in GRLevel3 that would be used for placefile controls .. it seems to be built-in and refresh controlled by the refresh interval in the placefile itself.  ?!?

Best regards,
Ken

Hi Ken,

Yes start polling is greyed out. I tried with left check mark, then both no success.

Any other suggestions. I anew to GR3 so I can be doing something wrong. By the way is there an owners manual for GR3 I would like to understand the program more and what it does.

Best regards,

Bob
