Nice Bill, is your camy a PTZ ? I didn't see any place on the web site to control it. I am looking for a wireless PTZ for my site (not up yet) but it seems that the manufacturers don't seem to care to set up a demo page so you can try before you buy.

OH-Man, this is a do over, I forgot to hit Post. Hi Garth, Yes it is a PTZ, it's a Panasonic BB-HCM371A Pro. You can find the specs on it, just about any place, however I never found a demo page, really never looked for one. I don't have it enabled for use on the net, as I am hoping to have a new web page up and running some time this summer and at that time I hope to have it functional. Why not give Panasonic a call @ 1-800-272-7033, may-be they can help you with a demo page. If you purchase one, I am sure you will enjoy it, I do mine. Bill.>>>>>>>>>>>> Hit the post link, dummy.

Cool. I will call and check on it. There are some inexpensive PTZ's on the market but can't find any reviews or demo areas to make sure I am not wasting money. I found out a Trendnet I was looking at actually had very low fps then what was advertised. I do like your setup. It is really sharp. I was going to use PVC clamped to the garage but I am thinking of switching to a free standing pipe in cement. That is the big goal this weekend....get the ISS up on a permanent mount with better exposure and launch the website.

So much to do. Maybe I should do it like an ol fashioned barn raising. Everyone come to my house and help me get the ISS to its new better exposure. Food and beer provided.....beer provided only AFTER the ISS is leveled and in the air.

Add free ginger ale to calm the stomach and we're there.

I used the halogen light and have no problem with it. Just bought the light from lowes for about 10 dollars, removed all the hardware. Cut the USB cable on the webcam put it where the wires were for the light and glued the webcam on the bottom. Put the cover on and I have a cheap outdoor webcam.

Pretty cool. Did you have to splice the plug back on? Also, I noticed a lot of outdoor camera shelters have a little fan/heater to keep the interior of the shelter within operating parameters of the camera. Do you think that will be necessary? Let us know if you have any problems in that regard (condensation, overheating, etc).

I did have to re-connect the usb plug for the camera but it was not a problem. As for ventilation and such, I really have not had a problem. Right now we have the highest temperatures (101.1) since I installed the webcam, so I guess this is a test. I will have to see what happens this winter with the cold temperatures.

Good God Man! 101 at noon???? I see you set a new record down there for today's date. I'm peaking at 93 at 1544 hrs in Northern Jersey. I see your station is mounted to a garage like structure? Are you perhaps picking up ambient heat from a driveway or the like? Is your radiation shield fan aspirated? Just wondering. And I certainly hope your AC is working!

The change to my web cam. Added a rotor, works great. The unit in the back is the antenna housing for the Boltek lightening detector. The ears on the cap are for alignment purposes with a compass. Bill.>>>>>>>>>>>>

Sweet!!!!!!! I love the rotor idea. I currently have a UHF antenna mounted on the roof, I put it up to receive HD TV broadcasts over the air before we got digitial cable in the area. Wife had been bugging me to take it down saying it is a lightening rod. I keep telling her it is a backup in case a bad storm or other event takes out cable, at least we can see what is going on in the news (I have a generator too). Now I'm thinking of taking it down and mounting the camera up there instead and use the existing power rotor to change the camera view. Great idea. I'll probably put the anemometer up there too using the wireless repeater from Davis.

Hey, that's very similar to the discone antenna I have other then mine did not come with the top vertical element. It's been up there about 15 years now and done a good job. I've lost a couple of the lower ground plane elements over the years thanks in part to birds, ice, and wind. But to get to it I have to pull the rotor, two TV antennas and a 10' section of 1.5" plumbers pipe while standing on the tower rungs 28' up in the air. Not something my back and legs look forward to doing anymore.
